Alternator belt adjustment

My alternator belt needs adjustment (tightening a bit) and I was wondering if ppl could share their techniques or proper method on getting it adjusted close to spec (3.7 - 4.1mm deflection).

starting with tensiion adj and idler adjust in their current position, should I:

A) tighten tension adjust, then loosen idler and re-tighten idler.

B) loosen idler idler nut, tighten tension adjust and re-tighten idler.

thanks

loosen idler nut then tighten belt, then tighen idler nut. I helped a buddy of mine on his 4th gen and had to do it that way. a real PITA because the nut was tight.
