Customizing Big Brakes

Would this ever work?

My friend has a 240sx and he's using jeff's bracket, cobra rotors, 3z caliper etc and I was thinking since our kit works with his car, would it be possible to get one of the 240sx big brake kits to fit our cars. Like stoptech or Project Mu or is there something that i'm missing from here. Could it be possible that we could fit there aftermarket big brake kits onto the maxima.

not all. I believe some of the s14s have 5 lug. They can also do a 5 lug conversion also.

I don't know how your friend is using my brackets. RWD and FWD Nissans have different dimensions. Either the pad overhang is going to be excessive or the rotor will be scraping the caliper. I don't remember which. Did he buy the brackets from me? I don't remember anyone with a 240 inquiring about them.

matthel bought them off of you... and he bought them off matthel.

The caliper doesn't bite much of the rotor as the maxima does.

heres a picture.

Thanks for the info. Yup. There is a dimensional difference. Probably in the 3-4 mm range of more pad overhang.

And to answer your question, you can get those other kits. But they won't fit properly. But there are already 3-5 kits available for the maxima so I don't quite understand why you would want these other kits. And since the 240 weighs diff, kits for those might not be sized properly vs the current selection from StopTech, Stillen, Blemco, etc............

"works" is a relative word. But put it this way. If I didn't think the dimensional differences weren't significant, I wouldn't have spent the time, money and trouble developing my own brackets for the maxima application.

yea... what jeff said, brian.

The hubs are relatively the same, hence the 300zx caliper bolts up to the maxima and the rotor doesn't have any offset issues. However in the case of BBK's, the bracket design gets more complicated as there are clearance issues and stuff between the front hub area in a fwd and rwd application. Oh.. this is IMO

It would just mean harder to find and more expensive parts

Project mu already makes brake pads for the cefiro, you could try them out. If you really wanted you could purchase the 240sx project mu bbk and see how fitment is with the maxima and then slightly change the bracket design to work. The AP bbk fitment is already super close (w/in a few mm) in the tight clearance area of our front hubs

Why? You already have more braking force than God himself? You want to complete this great bbk? Buy Matt's rear bbk. Put that on and you won't believe what this does to your braking. I run a front/rear bbk (diff rear kit than Matt's - won't fit a 4 gen) and the braking is nothing short of incredible.

Why not just go with a big brake kit from BREMBO or STILLEN? I guess my reply would be the $$$ issue.

It's only money right? Like $1,000+ money difference.
