Chrome trim around windows

no, this isn't a thread about how to black it out.....

i was wondering if that chrome trim can be purchased separately. i was thinking i could have it painted either black or body color. i searched the Midway Parts Team site and i can't find it on there. anybody know if this part is available?? thanks for the info.

I blacked mine out with TrimBright Tape. I'm sure the trim is available somewhere but keeping paint on a chromed piece is difficult....it likes to chip. Maybe if it was sanded good first, but it would be hard to make it look smooth. Maybe powdercoating would work?

Actually, the tape looks pretty good and it's a lot less hassle than painting, but it wouldn't be available in Grey Lustre.

i've tried the blackout tape and it turned out to be a disaster. it looked terrible around the curves in the trim. maybe i just didn't have enough patience for it.

Like 03on18's said, Auto Zone. Mine turned out very well. A lot of patience is needed, and a sharp razor blade. It works best when it's hot outside. The tape seems to 'bend' better.

yeah, mine came out almost perfect, the bends i STRETCH the hell out of the tape and got it to evenly go through the bend and look like it was cut out to bend that way. like someone said, patience and some beer.

i agree with what everyone said, you have to stretch the tape at the corners, not so much long ways, but stretch it wider so it can make the turn. i have to redo one side, as i rushed the drivers side a little bit, and chrome is peeking thru here and there. but you cant tell unless you are right up on it that its suppose to be chrome, and even then its tough to someone who doesnt know.

trim brite is a quality product. it's not just electrical tape, it has some fibrous material in it to keep it more stiff and sturdy than black electrical tape. get some. do it. you'll like it.

here are a couple of pics. the pinstripe is gone, ftr.

blacked out ftw, and yeah that tape was a pita, id like to never have to to that again. and use a fresh set of x-acto blades. the tape made them wear out fast. or maybe it was my flesh, i remember bleedign alot that day.

had the tape on for about a year, winter storms, blazing sun, no peeling or cracking yet

i think it chrome strip looks better if you have tints. my car looks hot with tints and chrome strip with titanium silver paint. i say keep the chrome but chrome door pillars i think what you call them..... they are soo ugly and and ghetto.
