sqeaking noise and burning oil
Couldn't find anyone post about anything like that.
Here's my problem: I get that sqeaking noise that's coming out of the right-lower part of the engine (under the air scoop, near front exhaust manifold). This is NOT a belt problem (they are quiet), because belts were replaced ~2k miles ago but it sounds just like I have bad belts. Another thing is the car burn oil a bit. I couldn't really see any real level change, but it does smell a bit.
It's a 5spd 2k with 67k on it.
Anyone have any input? It sure will be appreciated.

Noise could be possibly a bad precat that has fallen apart and its rattleing inside. The honey comb structure inside the cat has a tendency to make noises when rubbing over metal cat CAN. If the cat fell apart, it might have gotten sucked into your engine causing piston ring damage and causing oil consumption problems. QR25DE in the 02 and some 03 Sentra and Altimas had this problem and there was a recall on the precat. It stated that particles of the damaged cat could get sucked into the engine durring deceleration (reversion of exhaust gases) and it would score up the cylinder walls causing increased oil consumption problems. Is your car a CALI spec 00 ? Only the Cali spec ones had a precat in the front exhaust manifold, Fed spec 00s had normal exhaust manifolds with a precat in the Ypipe.
No oil leaks of any kinds ? This would be a 1st for a 3.0L 5th gen to burn oil, my 01 with 130K miles doesn't burn a drop of Mobil 1 even with all the abuse it sees.

BlackBIRDVQ, thanks for a very knowledgable answer.
Mine is, as a matter of fact, a Cali spec model. The pre-cat problem sounds very possible, especially that y-pipes for cali-specs only get rid of the rear pre-cat (and I have a WSP one). I haven't seen any oil leaks whatsoever, but after the next oil change I'll be carefully monitoring any change in oil levels etc.
Very soon I'm gonna be changing my whole exhaust back to stock, so my question is if it's possible to inspect it during the swap? Or is there any other way to check that what you said is happening to the car? Thanks.

You can remove the precat from the exhaust manifold and look if it is indeed loose and falling apart- plus getting sucked into the engine. At that point if you find the cat bad, I would start looking at a new engine.

thanks again for the answer BlackBIRDVQ.
When I was parking the car today, I noticed that it's making that sound only when the clutch pedal is NOT pressed. When I press it all the way in, it disappears. I also tried driving and listening to it in 1st and 2nd gears. Same thing, since the clutch is not pressed it's making that squaking/whistling sound. I'm guessing it's either something with the tranny or shifter linkage. The car is at 67K on original clutch too (which took some beating... )

You need a new throw out bearing, as for your oil burning I have no idea why it would do that- its not a 3.5L right ? I threw the cat idea here cause you mentioned oil burning- and very similar symphtoms are experienced on QR25DE engine in the Spec 5 Sentra and 2.5 Altimas.
