Don't even try to convert your shifter to the automatic Anniversary Edition shifter. I attempted to pay Nissan to do it. I used to work at a Nissan dealership and had my friend, who is my technician at the dealership, try to change the regular automatic shifter to the AE one. It basically will not work! (Only with heavy modification.) The entire console between the front seats has to be removed from the car, from front to back. The shaft on the existing shifter (which is beneath the leather shifter itself) is longer than the one on the AE shifter. The screw points on the two shifters are different as well! In addition, the two wires for the overdrive button add to the complexity. Once you remove the two screws on the front side of the shifter, please do not pull straight up! You will snap the two wires that control the overdrive function! Actually disconnecting those two wires was a PITA. (the two metal connectors for the wires are really small!) My tech caught HELL disconecting them. You risk damaging them if you're not very careful. Like I said, I used to work there and they had my car for a week! When it was all over said and done, I was reimbursed for the AE shifter but had to buy another shifter. They messed up when ordering and ordered a GLE shifter in Frost. I was fired up and they heard about it! But in the end, I like the Frost shifter better because it matches the color of the emergency brake and color scheme in the car.
In order to have the AE shifter, my friends in Nissan parts and my tech informed me that the entire (PRND21) assembly had to be replaced (even to the point where the assembly bolts to the metal of the vehicle) They wanted $275.00 just for the AE Assembly itself (employee cost), no labor!
It might not be worth switching the shifter after all. It's your call.
Respectfully, Bran Da Man

I've wanted to swap out for the gated shifter, but have no idea how much would actually need to be replaced. I imagine the entire shift assembly IF it would even work at all.
Anyone know if it is just an electronic signal from the shifter to the tranny? That would probably make things a lot easier.

get the levoc one. i have one and was pretty simply to install. the AE one requires modification and if you do it worng, you are SOL..as for the install, it does require the console to be removed.

It's not hard. I'll try to explain
1. buy auto shifter of your choice. Ebay's a cheap place or your local speed shop. Southwest has the levoc
2. remove trim around stock shifter. Butter knife works well to pry off trim piece.
3. unplug and remove cig lighter and ashtray and pull out.
4. remove two screws in front of center console and then the two screws in the back of the console. Then pull entire console out
5. remove two screws on back of stock auto shifter ****.
6. remove the PNRD21 trim piece that you can now get to after removing center console.
7. find the two wires that connect to your OD switch in stock shifter and cut them. Now you should be able to remove your stock auto ****.
8. once **** is removed you'll have to use a hack saw or sawz-all or maybe a dremel to cut the pipe down to the level you want. I cut mine down a little by little to get the height just were I wanted it. I ended up with the pipe being about an 2 long and the center rod inside the pipe being about 2.5 inches long. But depending on what **** you go with these measurements will change.
9. install new **** sleeve with provided allen wrench screws to height desired and then screw on the top half of your ball ****.
10. now if you've cut everything correctly, when you push the ball down a half inch or so it will release the shift lock and you can move the shifter as you did before with the button on the left of the stock shifter.
11. now you'll have to extend the OD wires that you cut and wire it up to a switch somewhere in your console or on your dash.
That should be it, all in all it's pretty simple.
