4th gear pops out when normal shifting

I have an 02 6spd with 49,xxx miles on it. I brought it into the dealer and they diagnosed it to be the transmission. They are going to replace it under the power train warranty.

WTF would cause it to go so fast? I'm happy i get a new tranny though.

Discuss.

Then there is your most reasonable answer.

Interesting...when I was test driving Maximas I came across a couple '02 6-speeds where the stick would jiggle back and forth like it was trying to pop out of gear. Never did though, the jiggles weren't strong enough. I ended up buying one without the jiggle though, so hopefully this won't be an issue with mine. Mine had about 38,000 miles on it when I bought it too, now it has a little over 39,000.

The stick moves around on all 6 speeds. It's normal. I test drove 3 and they all did it. In certain gears if you let of the gas kinda quick the shifter moves back and forth a little. Nothing to be worried about unless it jumps out of gear.

same with 5 spds, what you should do is replace the bushings. through time, bushings wear out and begin to cause sloppy shifting and wobbly shift levers. you could go with either factory bushings or get polyurethane or whatever.

as for the tranny, i think it's your 4th gear synchro that's blown. is it notchy to put in 4th sometimes?

49K miles only? I bet the previous owner just kept his/her hand on the shifter ****, looking cool while driving around in 4th.

It was when I bought it, then it softened up and it started popping out. The mechanic did say it was the syncro. I am just surprised that it went so soon. The car is still young.

Thats why you dont buy a leased car. Every leased car is abused. Carfax it before buying.

who said anyone bought a leased car??? have you heard of used or certified? or just BRAND NEW?

btw, carfax doesn't tell you everything about the car, only what is REPORTED! a car can be in 10 accidents and have a clean record.
