Whining noise from clutch

On my 02, it seems like when i have been in stop and go traffic for a while, the clutch starts to make a whining noise when i am letting off it in 1st gear. any idea what it could be? I think i just need to change the fluid

I get a horrible squeak every time i press and release the clutch. are you only getting it in first gear or only noticing it in first gear? im still trying to figure out what i should be lubricating to make that noise go away, because the noise is more noticeable from outside than from under the dash.

I have the same issue with my clutch. Even if my car is not in gear it makes a squeak/ groan noise when pushing the clutch in and letting it out. Gonna try to lube up the pedal and linkage first to try and cure it.

yea i dont think my problem is whats described in the TSB. plus the dealer around here (Cherry Hill Nissan in NJ) is horrible when it comes to doing TSB's / recalls. total jerks

Max51 let me know if that works for you... what are you using for lube

sounds like a bad throw out bearing

I'm having the same squeaking problem coming from my clutch pedal. It does it whether in gear or out of gear. If it's the throw out bearing then I mine as well replace the clutch while it's all opened up. Damn it...I'm only at ~57K miles.

Had similar noise in my 2k max. It would make the noise even when car is stationary and in neutral. Got the trans rebuilt with new bearing kit and new clutch, pressure plate and flywheel. Drives like brand new now. Is your clutch pedal hard to depress?

clutch is not stiff at all and is pretty smooth except for the noise. if it is the throwout bearing, is there anything wrong with driving it till it fails? i cant afford a new clutch right now (or ever!).

shabo how come your rebuilt the tranny? was there another problem along with the clutch?

It's your throw-out bearing. If it is not causing the pedal to feel hard, or you dont feel any sort of bump during take-off you could get away with greasing it up for a little while.

hesham1: The whinning noise came from the bearings in the transmission in my situation, so the option was to rebuid or replace. Clutch was about 50% worn so I replaced while trans. was out with all other parts.

what type of lube should i use. when i was looking at the housing, i notice what looks like a greasing point right there where the clutch is. i had never seen that on any of the other cars i owned. can i just use a grease gun and load some lithium grease into there? that happens to be exactly where the squeaking is coming from.

i took a video with sound of the clutch being engaged and disengaged to show you how bad its squeaking, but i cant figure out where to upload the file. ill have it up soon....

ok nevermind took a look at the service manual, that was the bleeder for the hydraulic line. looked just like a grease fitting too.

ok so i can drive with this bad throw out bearing till complete failure? what other problems am i risking by doing so? since the rest of the clutch seems to be working just fine id rather hold off till 80K or so before i go in and change everything out. please let me know if this is a big mistake.

what could cause the bearing to go out so soon? 59K seems early to me? Ive owned the car since 50K? How do i prevent premature wear once the new one gets put in?

I am letting it go until I am ready to replace everything. If you drop the tranny to grease the TO bearing.....may as well replace the clutch disc + pressure plate while you're at it.

how depressing. i remember my 88 pathfinder (r.i.p.) went 172K without ever needing to drop the tranny. all original clutch and everything. im still shocked about this happening so early.

TO bearing isnt covered by the powertrain warranty correct? Since ive only got 1000 miles left on it i want to make sure....
