The service engine soon light was annoying me.. so I brought her in to the dealer this morning to see if I can get some validation on the computer telling me its either one or more of the ignition coils... or the MAF.. I'm suspecting both to be honest with you..

so far.. it costs 72 just for them to hook up to the computer and read the codes..

will let ya know what comes of it.

(btw: the problem i am having is similar to y2kevse's.. with the hesitation and pinging.)

It's always nice to know that car service departments (any make, not just Nissan) are so willing to check out anythng and everything for you...as long as you don't forget to bring your wallet.

Good luck with the car, foozed. I hope it's nothing serious.

If they pull a 0340 code (I believe it's the Camshaft Sensor), don't pay for replacement because that's not it (I replaced mine and the code is still the same).

Good luck and please keep us updated.

Strange.. I brought my 99 Max in one day because of the light and the dealership didn't charge me anything.

That should be a warranty repair for sure. Kev, is your CAI causing your check engine light? One guy in the DC area is throwing codes with his CAI. Are you able to get warranty repairs with your modified setup?

Nope, not the CAI. I cannot get warranty repairs on modified parts.

they've decided to keep the car overnight...

Nissan called me late in the afternoon... he stated that the codes they are getting are saying something about cylinder number 1... (the front left).
They swapped ignition coils, and the codes still continued.. so they wanted the car overnight so they can continue to diagnose tomorrow..

More to come...

They should replace it under warranty and not charge you.
I had a slight hesitation on my 2K Max last month of the
line and fixed what ever they had to at no charge. You
just have to schmooze the service writer about your car.
Thats what I had to do due to the mods I did on my car and it worked.

hahahahahahahaha

you said nissan ... service

Just kidding, (i didn't know they could go in the same sentence ... you know like a double negative, oxymoron situation)

I hope everything turns out ok for you. I agree that the warranty work should be taken care of and you should not to to pay anything for those repairs. The only way they could make you pay for anything is if you have a CAI or maybe a pulley. If you don't have any engine mod's they can't make you pay, not even to hook it up to the computer.

Keep us posted. If it's not a coil, it may be a fouled injector. What kind of gasoline are you using?

It's funny you should mention that.. I've been using Sunoco Ultra 94 consistently ever since I detected the problem.. and I do believe that it has helped in lessoning the pinging and hesitation etc... Prior to that I was an Exxon 93 man.. (its cheap around here in NJ.. Sunoco is the MOST expensive)..

anyway..I'll know more tomorrow and will keep you all posted.

got my car back today...

Well.. the tech's at Nissan are intrigued by my problem..
One thing I have to say off the bat is that they LOVE the mods I've done.. and could care less, and did not even one think about blaming anything on them, or voiding any warranty's... which I think is VERY cool.

Anyway.. after another whole day of driving and diagnosing (they've put like 30 miles on the car).. they are suspecting that it is the ECU, and have ordered a new one to replace it next week when it comes in. The ECU carries an 8 yr, 80,000 mile warranty.. so it was covered since I am close to 46K miles...
The service light is off for now.. and I've put about 20 miles on it.. and it hasnt come back on and the car is running great...
They've swapped coiles and inspected the MAF.. of which they are certain has nothing to do with the problem...

Thats all I have to say for now. More to come next week when they replace the ECU.

Hmmmmm ECU? I might just take my car into the dealer if that's the problem. Thanks for the update.

3/36 bumper to bumper
5/60 powertrain

but ive never heard of 8/80 for the ECU. Is it for the ECU only or dose it also cover all emissions?
