Brakes are screeching !

Okay about 2 weeks ago I install some new rotors and pads from Importrp (thanks for the GD btw)...everything goes smoothly and I also apply anti seize on the caliper bolts (motorvate.ca suggests it) and also apply anti-squeel compound to the pads...

Anyway a few days ago, out of nowhere, my brakes started to screech like crazy...only on the drivers side...thinking it was weird, I took apart the drivers side wheel and disassembled the pads & calipers....everything looks fine to me so I reapply and it still squealing...

It squeals loud when I lightly tap the pedal at any speed...its alot louder at the higher speeds like 50+....if I apply more force on the pedal, the noise goes away...so it only happens at light pedal taps...

any suggestions u guys?

take your pads off APPLY THE GREESE THAT CAME WITH THE PADS TO STOP THE SQUEEKING and put the pads back in, that should fix it, if not i kow they sell tacky spray that goes on the back of the brake pads that will stop them from squeeking.

Just be lucky you guys don't have Hawk HPS, screech everytime you press the brake, unless you press hard.

everytime I brake now I tap them let them go then tap them.....

and yea when u brake hard it doesn't squeal anymore, I also recently changed my front brake set up wid the same pads and xdrilled rotors tho, damn no fade at all....but the sound IS annoying so if anyone knows how to fix I wanna know too!

no grease came with the pads....I bought some CRC Anti-Squeal compound from autozone...i've used it before and never had a problem with them...

yes I've disassembled the system and reapplied the gel again...still same problem

Maximillen - thanks for the comment....you can always pick up a new lip from stillen direct...they have great prices!

anyway, so you have PBR ultimates too? only u have xdrilled rotors & not blanks....does your brakes screech on the drivers side only? hopefully your mechanic is right about the brakes just settling in....and no our brakes are not metallic as stated by your mechanic...those are metal masters...the ultimates are cermanic/kevlar

Nope my brake screehes all around...very annoying ...5.1 dts surround sound lol. I have been on this setup for about 2 months and it was quiet the first 2 weeks also.

Dunno if this will work or not but try going like 60 and hit the brakes hard, might solve your problem, or take the pad of and file it down or look on the pad to check for any crap in it. Like a pieace of metal or some bs.

thanks for the suggestion rob....I will give it a shot tomorrow....although I have tried slamming on the brakes real hard at like 30mph....I get no noise what-so-ever cuz this noise only happens when the pedal is lightly tapped...

and about the pads having foreign material....i'm sure its fine cuz i checked them a few days ago....nothing suspicious

Ya, re-bedding them in might help.

Edit: the instructions BMW boys swear by...

wouldn't the pads be permanently damaged if they weren't bedded in the first time?

I did not do anykind of "beddin" in for my ultimates...I just drove very lightly for the first few days without hard stops...

okay guys...I just got back from some bedding in....I did two sets of 8 hard stops.....with a 15 minute cool down period between the two sets...

Most of the hard stops were around 30-40mph.....some i was able to get into the 50-60 zone...but majority of them at 40....I kept braking until I started to feel the pedal fade....then took her on the freeway to cool her down since the freeway doesn't require much braking....

all I have to say is...WOW the annoying screech has disappeared? I know its only the first few hrs after the beddin in...but i'm finally happy that it went away for once...i'm gonna keep ya'll posted about it tomorrow...see if it still does it

I have Axxis Ultimates on new blank rotors. They squeak under light braking, but it's not from just one side.

Alright guys....i drove my car today....worked great until operating temperature and it started screeching again....even after two sets of bedding in the pads...argh! but the good news is, the screeching has cut down about 40% since the last time....

Just right now I went for another set of beddin them in...hopefully tomorrow morning I will get close to no screeching...I'll be happy with that...keep u guys posted

another thing to note...I notice this screeching only happens at operating temps, light pedal tapping, & in cold weather....I notice before operating temp (like first 2 miles of braking) it doesn't screech AT ALL....anyone else

Day 2 of my search for quiet brakes...and here are the results...

Yesterday was a freezing 60 degrees in so cal...with the high being in the 90's during the day....I notice when I drove during the day, screeching was at a very minimal...no matter what pedal position it was in...about 75% of the total driving was dead quiet...at night, the screeching was not noticeable for the first few miles...when the brakes hit operating temps, it started to screech...about 40% of the time, it was dead quiet, while the other 60% it screeched....also noted that the screeching now occurs at a lower pedal position...before it was high pedal position (just barely tapped on the brakes and it would screech)...

I have come to conclude that, axxis ultimates seem to screech according to temperature changes...cuz when I pull out the driveway and blast down the street tappin the brakes, it doesn't screech what so ever...and it stays that way if the weather is hot outside
