How do I push in the left axle

Hey all,
I replace clutch and need to figure out how to push in the left axle into the tranny? Manual says to push it in. Its hard to do with bare hands. Anyone know of any tricks? This is the side where axle has a ring on its end. I left it in the hub from the other side, was able to drop tranny without take axle out of the hub. So outer end is in, just need to push it in somehow into the tranny.

Thanks.

Man up and push it in! Make sure the ring is not bent out of shape. You can use a soft blow mallet, make sure you put the axle nut on the end so you do not mess up the threads.

Is that ring supposed to be really tight around the rod, or a bit loose. When I took it out, it was loose, not that it fell off. Manual calls for replacing it, I just don't have one. Is it really criticall to replace it?

Thanks

I have had problems with them that were due to that ring not seating properly. Ive never replaced one, but I have had to rebend one to get it to fit properly so that the axle shaft would go in. It is important to have on there, do NOT remove it completely and install the axle.

the axle isnt still in the hub, is it?

if not, then just push it in, the circlip doenst need to be tight, just enough so it doesnt come off. use the plunging of the inner joint liek a slide hammer. good luck.

worked, thanks for all replies. I took the ring off, bend it in slightly, put it back on, and it went it. I thinkit has a spot that it likes, and goes in easy.

I had my y-pipe off when replacing the clutch, started the car without the y-pipe and front CAt, DAMN THAT thing sound nice. Like the drag car. all the neighbors woke up.
at 111k miles the front pre-cat is still in great condition, no signs of it going bad. The main cat has a little crack on the bootom of the mesh.
