Car Problem - Thunking Noise in Reverse

Whenever I put the car in reverse, give it some gas and let out the clutch the car lurches and makes a clunking noise. After that everything is okay. When I put it in gear (manual) and drive forward nothing happens, unless directly after the clunk in reverse. In that instance I get the clunk again when giving it gas and releasing the clutch. Any idea what this could be? I took it to the dealership, but they said they could not reproduce it. Frankly I dont think the guy was listening to me when I told him the problem becuase it said on the work order that it was a clunking sound going over bumps. I have no idea how he got that out of what I said. What do you guys think? CV join maybe?

I would have went for motor mounts too but I just replaced the stock one with the ES mounts not too long ago. On top of that if it were the motor mounts the motor would slop every time I got on or off the gas hard which it doesnt.

I will check into the symptoms of a wheel bearing issue. Thanks guys.

Another thought - could be your brake pads shifting...
Good luck!

so you have a 5speed? if so then it is probably one or both of your rear brake calipers sticking. it happens to me, and i need to get my rear drivers side caliper rebuilt or replaced. there is a rebuilt kit at autozone or whatever car parts store you frequent.
