Removing the Wind Deflector (your thoughts)

just curious as to what some of the advantages, and disadvantages are by removing it. i personally think it looks better but i've heard there are drawbacks.

Drawbacks = marks in the paint that will not go away.

are you talking about the sunroof ones? i've been kinda wanting to add one on...are there lesser wind noise with that thing? i got the ones for all four windows before and they kinda added more wind noise when the windows were closed o_O

i think it looks smoother and cleaner without the deflectors but i would just like to decrease the wind noise a bit while driving on the fwy and stuff =/

I say keep it on, I like the look of it on my car... then again my car is more black so it kinda flows more.

One more thought is see if it can be painted your body color so it flows better... can someone photoshop a lighter color max with a body color deflector??? I want to see how it would look.

I took mine off the day I took delivery of my 2K2. I think the car looks better without it. I have very little wind niose without it. I was lucky in that it had not been on that long, and I was able to polish out the marks.

I took mine off once, but the marks it left behind were terrible. If I ever get around to having the paint redone on the car I'll take it off, but until then it HAS to stay on or else expose those nasty scuffs It sucks.

But, my vote would be to take it off for sure

I took mine off, it really makes the car flow well. The only drawback are the marks, which I can live with so.....Also it doesn't seem to be any louder since I took it off, honestly it is about the same....

You have a 5 year old car. The chances of you getting out the dirt and scuffs that have been caused by the deflector are minimal at best. Leave it alone.

okay well im not going to argue about it, i know less than probably everyone on this forum when it comes to cars right now.. just seems like the material wouldnt do well to me if it was painted.

I took mine off and the marks while visible at some angles were not bad at all. Cleaner lines without IMO.

i removed mine and realized one thing...its a WIND deflector not a NOISE reflector.
with it - not as much air flow inside the car but noise
without - a little more air but greatly reduced noise

thank you! so many people think that since it deflects wind, it's only purpose is to 'decrease' wind noise... WRONG! It's purpose is to keep wind from entering the cabin so that the wind resistance is reduced when the sunroof is open...common sense....and yes the scars left behind are very noticable and they cannot be polished out...they are ETCHED into the paint....it looks horrible at night when light reflects off of it and when it's in the sun....just keep it on...

i took mine off as a test, and never put it back on, the car looks so much sleeker and smaller without it. my scars were rather bad too.

You'll get all kinds of answers here, but the FACTS are:

1) leaving it on or off, it looks good

2) if you DO leave it on for a long period of time, it WILL scratch the paint on the top of the car

3) if you take it off and decide not to use it, you can sell it to someone who does want to use it

I'd say to take it off, and for anybody looking to see what it would look like if you painted it body color, post a pic of your car w/ deflector here and I'll photoshop it for you.

wrong.. it doesnot cut down the noise, i took mine off and its just as loud as with it on my friend. and the marks it leaves are minimal, you barely notice unless you are inches away from it staring at that spot.. obviously its recommended you repaint your car if you plan to do it if it bugs you that much.
