Wifes Maxima got hit yesterday.

My wife and nine year old son were cruising down the road yesterday when a Dodge Durango pulled out right into their path. She hit the truck on the drivers side front fender and bumper.

No one was seriously hurt. Not sure if it's going to be totaled or not. Car is an 00 GLE with almost 90k.

I was really surprised there was no airbag deployment.

And one of my 02 SE. I had been wanting to take a pic of them together. Sort of like a his/hers but oh well.

Wow, sorry to hear about the accident, but glad to hear no one was hurt. I would think that looks totalled, but I am not an expert by any means.

I dont think it will be totaled
Before i got a 03 Accord and have the same situation as yours.
I report the insurance company(ICBC) and they said it need about 4500 CAD to repare it.

That's a lot more than Cdn$4,500 (US$3,800 or so) to fix. If it's not totalled, it will be close to it given you have 90K on the clock.

Thankfully your family is safe and sound.

its totaled. i wrecked my 00 GLE with 85K miles. i t-boned a chick that pulled out in front of me and had less damage then that and it was totaled. they said they didnt even get half way through the repair estimate when the priced reached the point of it being a total lose

Man, good to hear the family's ok; I have Kids myself....the car doesn't look totalled--but make sure you get everyone checked out; you don't want some injury to pop up down the road.....best wishes.

good that everyone is ok...a testament to the often-overlooked safety of the maxima.

as soonerfan said, it's totaled. I saw his car, and yours is much worse.

Thanks everyone. The wife is feeling a bit better. just stiff and sore. My boy is running around like nothing happened. Must be nice to be young.

I'm hoping the car gets totaled. Nothing like owing money on a car that's had serious bodywork. Forget about ever selling it for anywhere near what's owed on it. Thank goodness for gap insurance.

Yeah, I remember you guys. I think he bought an RSX right? I remember talking with you about Maximas more than selling the RSX

Good to hear the Family is OK. As Irish stated, the Maxima safety is usual overlooked but it's there when it counts. Don't worry, just get her to buy another Max and u can still get your his/her pics

That sucks man. Like others have said, glad everyone is ok. From the damage in the pics, looks most likely to be a total loss.

Holy Crap, I had a Dodge pull out in front of me just the other day as well. It was one of those V-10 SRT Trucks though, I just barely avoided it also so I know how scary it must have been for your wife, hope she gets better. Glad your son is also doing fine.

I'd say totalled. my 02 had about the same damage except both airbags deployed and i only had 40,000 miles on it. Insurance co called it a total loss and cut the check for a replacement........

i just noticed the part about the airbag not deploying. what was the speed at impact? airbags are set to go off at 40 mph combined speed (of both cars). meaning head on wreck were both cars are going 20...both bags deploy (20+20=40). if you are going 50 and rear-end someone going 20 they wont deploy since the impact speed was 30mph. in my case, i t-boned the other car and i was going 35 so they didnt deploy since the other car's speed was basically 0.
they are set that way so people dont get their faces smashed in by the bag during a fender bender

It was raining so I'm sure she wasn't driving too fast. She hates driving in the rain. Probobly less than 45. I'm not sure if she had time to hit the brakes or not. I didn't get a really good look at the other car but I think it was kind of a glancing blow. I don't think the airbag would have made a difference. Luckily we wear our seatbelts every time we're in the car no matter where we're going. They were only a few miles from the house.

Good to hear your fam is OK. My buddy and I were in his 97 Max about 3 months ago and a kid that was drunk and high ran a stop sign. We t-boned him and flipped his car on it's roof. Airbags deployed even though we were probably only going 35. Of course his car was totalled (worth a lot less than your wife's). Best of luck to you and your's.

total

air bag didn't deploy cuz sensor under front bumber didn't get hit. I rear ended someone a week ago needing to replace my hood, front bumber cover, grill, radiator support and associated body work and paint giving me an estimate of $4300 using factory parts. That's when I say heck with it, I'm buying the parts and do it myself by tie up a rope to my radiator support and pull it back to shape using a tree.. . . anyway, your damage looks twice as severe as mine so I'd say it'd cost around $8000.
