EVAP leaking?

When this leaks will the car get worse gas mileage and smell like gas? I got that symptom and took it to the dealer paid 80 bucks for a new gas cap. Still had odor and light came on 3 days later. Now they say they have to replace something, I don't rember what it is but I think its EVAP something. They said its $450 and the warranty does not cover.

how many miles on the car? where are you located?

what warranty are you talking about?

depending on the situation, youll probably end up just paying the $450 for the repair, MINUS the refund you should get for the gas cap and all labor charges on that repair, including diagnosis...

furthermore... teh evap canister (if thats the failed part) lists for 173.33, and labor time for install is 1.5 hours. thats about $120 in labor, so you shouldnt be paying more than $300ish.

not only that, but for the inconvenience, they could probably drop the labor rate, depending on what it is.

i hate it when ppl get a p0455 and just put a gas cap on it and call it a day...

It has about 90,000 miles. I have the silver or gold coverage warranty. it says

What is covered by the Gold Plan?
The Security+Plus Gold Plan covers over 1500 major vehicle components, including many of the latest high-tech systems. These include most internal and external components in the engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, steering, air conditioning and drive axle(s).*

What is not covered by the plan?
The Gold Plan's extensive protection includes just about everything needed to keep your Nissan operating smoothly except maintenance services, tires, wheel balance and alignment, battery, spark plugs and wires.*

I dont have a list of the 1500 things that it covers, but the dealership said if I had the Gold Preferred Plan it would be covered. I will just buy the part myself and install it.

you should still get your money back for the gas cap and labor/diag.

id get the list from nissan (its a nissan warranty, right?). it should be on that list, considering its an emissions/powertrain component...

Got it looked at today, by somebody smarter than the people at the dealer. The hose going to the evap was not connected. Connected it and its better.
