Repair from Leaking Battery Acid

Geez....2.5 years old....and battery acid rusted the tray, support brackets and body underneath the battery!

I removed the battery, neutralized the area with baking soda and water. BTW...some fell on the car paint and the baking soda damaged the paint. Be careful!

Anyway, I wirebrushed what I could...then coated the area with "Permatex" Rust Treatment.

It forms a protected, paintable surface that resists acid. Put on 2 coats.

Then, I sprayed it with Rustoleum Silver metallic rust resistant gloss paint. It comes very close to matching the bright silver finish of my 2K3.

I also treated the brackets and changed their color from black to silver. Looks good.

thanks

Vic
