What would win in a race a 2001 GS430 or a 2001 CLK55 AMG?? Both my friends have these cars and personally i think the CLK55 will spank the GS. I have driven the CLK55 and it hauls. It is just as fast as his 2001 Vette, which is an auto also. The CLK is capable of high 4's 0-60 and somewhere around 13.5 in the 1/4. I havent seen numbers for the GS430, but I found some on the GS400 6.2: 14.8.

Lets see, the CLK is about 300lbs lighter, makes 50ft-lbs more peak torque (at a lower rpm, I might add) and over 40 more peak HP. Sounds like the Lexus would get spanked.

There is no GS430 only GS300 and GS400, I think you might be cofused with the LS430 or the SC430

Actually, the numbers did change with the 2001 model year. There is a GS 430 as well as a LS 430.

I must admit that stock vs stock a CLK55 would spank a GS430 but not by much. In a recent issue of Motor Trend when they tested a GS430 they ran the 1/4 mile in 13.9 sec.
Now also remember that the CLK55 costs about $20G more than the GS430. Now use that leftover money you have from buying the GS430 and purchase a Stage 2 Supercharger from SwiftRacing , would the CLK55 still win.....Hmmmmm

A Benz is Benz. A Lexus is a wannabe Benz. The Lexus has to put a SC on just to go up against the normally aspirated Benz. The extra $20K is worth it on the Benz....very exclusive ride! Those two cars should not be compared in my opinion.

there is a GS430... cause i have one... and yes it would get spanked... in reverse i believe as well... hehe... but one is a 4 door and the other is a 2 door they have different weights, different prices, different everything if u ask me... the GS430 should be compared to a E430 not a CLK 55...

Do you have a Mercedes? They SUCK Goat *****!!! Mercedes can't fix CRAP!! It took 7months to fix our E420 after a accident, that was at a low speed, the airbag didn't even go off. And it took them 6weeks to fix the seatbelt b/c it wouldn't retract. The best part is that the 2k1 S500 comes w/ GPS, but not a cd player. You can get it for a $1000 if you want though. I love how the all doors unlock if the passenger opens the door(the passenger door opens too).

The E430 and the S430 is only making 275hp, while the Ls430 makes 290hp and the the Gs430 is making 300hp. Mercedes doesn't even have a car in the US that uses a SC. They are going to release a C-class that makes 349hp, but they just figured out that FI is a replacement for displacement.

The cars shouldn't be compared though. JAPANESE CARS RULE!! STUPID overpriced German cars.

yea but dont forget the german image... the 7-series BMW, the S-class Benz.. those are like the top cars to own before going on to cars taht are double their price... Japanese cars are better for the money but sometimes its not just raw power and softer leather... its all about the image it reflects...

YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT....Benz's are so much better than Lexus. Look at every Lexus: The GS is a copy of the Mercedes E-class, The new LS430 is a copy of the old S Class, the SC430 looks a lot like a SLK. If Benz's suck than why is Lexus plagerizing their designs to match Mercedes. German cars are built rock solid. I have driven a older S500 with 200K miles and it was still vault-like. Try doing that in a Lexus, it aint gonna happen. And dont tell me that i dont know what im talking about cause I have driven pretty much every Benz model, 740's + 330is, and a Carrera.

there should be no question about...you just listed the times anyways; what's the point? The CLK will trounce the GS; a more suitable race would be between a CLK430 and GS430.

careful what you're saying, Nissan makes Infiniti and the Q45 is just straight AWEsome; it's fast just standing there.

There is no comparison of an AMG to a Lexus. Two door/four door doesn't matter! An AMG is on another level than a Lexus in every respect...yes including dollars. People who buy an AMG are not pondering a Lexus. Lexus, Infiniti, Acuras cannot be compared to...911 Twin Turbo, AMG, M-Series BMW, S-Series Audi. NSX, GS430, Q45...all nice cars.... I would take a 911TT over all three of those combined.

Jason, I know you're my buddy, but please man...be realistic...Benz's are not SO MUCH better than Lexus'. They are in the same class...and personally..after riding in and DRIVING both....which I know you haven't done. I personally think that benz's are plain cars...inside and out...our GS430 is just a solid and QUIETER than an E-class, and it's also faster and handles better. I drove it around for about an hour tonight and did everything, quiet cruising, full throttle acceleration, and hard turning a braking. That car is simply amazing. It's quieter than a BMW 740iL...and stops from 70 and well as a Corvette. You can't say that about a benz. And while we're on the subject of copying....what benz does the IS300 copy.....oh yea...none of them...it outclasses the C-class. And MB...even with it's NEW 6 link rear suspension set up can't even make it handle as well as a BMW 3-series or Lexus IS. Lexus does not COPY anything...if that were the case...than I guess BMW copies MB too. Just becuase they were around first doesn't mean that they are "better". Man...you are just like Naz...ripping on stuff that you know almost nothing about and have no experience with.
