Thanks. If it looks as good as you say, I think I'll take my tape off.

i hardly even notice it on my white max and i just did it the other day (refer to post #14) Also none of my friends noticed it either....i think it makes the side of the car look really good, because it makes the trim around the windows stand out a lot more, and it looks more natural, considering the door is all one piece.....i know a lot of people would prefer the blacked out look, but i really like my color, and i think it looks unique this way

The door pillars on the max are actually just black tape covering the stock paint. You score the tape around the edge (don't go through the tape, just score it so it'll tear. Heat up the tape and just pull it away. Here's what it looks like:

You need to get your windows tinted so I can tell what it would look like on my car.... it's 35% tint if your wondering....

I'll take a daytime one tomorrow because it's already dark and I was at work all day.

I think, by far, this is the best free mod.

Heat Gun

Will a hair dryer produce enough heat to do this or do i need to get a "Heat Gun" per say?

that's what i used and it worked just fine...actually, i would think it would be a bit better because it doesn't get so hot as to make the paint bubble easily....

Thanks for the pic. Can't wait to see a daytime one. I agree, it looks very good on a dark color. I think I'll have to do that on mine.

MAXimumHP has a black 99SE and there is no tape on his B pillars. I like the glossy look better than the flat/matte finish.

Just a note: I've had mine done for about a month now and not one single person noticed. Corey had his done for as long as I've known him and I didn't notice it until he told me about it. It's one of those subtle mods that don't stand out per se, but when added together with other things, can make your car unique. Did any of you notice my grill is also painted to match the car? Probably not because the mod makes the car look like it should have when it rolled out of the factory. I just might shave my trunk next...

I was going to move up to rochester this year, but i think staying down south was a bit better, just because my car...i love the winters up there, otherwise, and if i could afford to live up there AND have a beater for the winter, then i would have done it in a second....

Looks good Maximapolak! Out of curiosity, are your rims painted or powdercoated? If painted, does the paint hold-up well?

Painted...it's been 2 very harsh winters in North Jersey and The paint hold pretty well. There are the occasional "Nissan Paint" looking spots, but that's because of all the salt. Just add more clear coat.

Don't know, but you can easily look at Maximapolak's pics and see exactly what your car would look like

Did anyone do this on a black Max yet? Could you post some pictures? I want to do this too but not sure how it would look on a black Max.

Thanks!

No damage...the tire just leaked all the air out in seconds. I drove home on it because it was a run flat tire.

I think it looks good only on dark colours like Polak's car. On light colours with tint, it divides the side windows and seems to make the windows look shorter.

Thanks, GBAUER...i think so too

it is really difficult to judge it with the pictures provided, but most people would think it came that way stock...if you look in the parking lot, about 50% of the cars have body colored door pillars, and the other 50% has, of course, black door pillars....i had never really paid attention until i did this...

most cars have black pillars. most trucks and vans have body colored pillars. go ahead, make your Max look like a minivan.

Why not? Stockers already look like a 4x4 anyway!

lol, since making my door pillars body-colored makes it look like a minivan and all
next time you're in a parking lot, pay attention to this, and you'll be surprised...there are a lot more cars out there with body colored door pillars than you think....

I think he's just a little green with envy over our fully customized, high performance door pillars! Don't you know that the weight reduction and added turbulance control is worth 30 whp! Not to mention the flash added to our cars! That's worth the big bucks at car shows!
