Free Mod: Color door pillars
OK, I know this one isn't fantastic by any means, but I like it because it's different and it was free. Redmax (4th genner and owner of Redlinemax.com) told me how to do it, so I have to give him props. Basically, you'll need a heat gun and an exact-o knife to do it. The door pillars on the max are actually just black tape covering the stock paint. You score the tape around the edge (don't go through the tape, just score it so it'll tear. Heat up the tape and just pull it away. Here's what it looks like:

looks pretty good george. i think it would be completed if you did the small pillar on the back doors also. most carbon fiber kits come with this pillar mold also. you might want to photochop it to see what it looks like, but nice work none the less.

Aright i did it...i think it looks really good, and gives the side of the car a bit more contrast....
Before:
After:
A couple hints to point out:
#1.) do not put very much pressure on the blade, if you just score it like he said, and hardly make a mark in the tape, it will tear there when you pull it off..
#2.) for the front doors, you do not have to score the side closer to the rear of the car....just open up the door, and you will see that the tape wraps around it, so you can just peel it from there.
#3.) pretty much the same principle applies for the back doors, just open them up and the side closest to the front of the car can be completely peeled off rather than scored, but you have to move the small weather strip out of the way to get to it.
#4.) heat it up really well; the more you heat it, the less sticky goo will be left behind (just don't over heat it, it could cause the paint to bubble)
#5.) peel slowly, this way, it has a lesser chance of being torn, and if you can get it off in one piece, that's great, the less the better...

i did this on my 96, but i think on lighter cars it looks out of place, well mostly if you have tint.
there is no tape on black cars.

but on a black car with tints, it might look better with this mod since the pillar would be nice and glossy

If you have tinted windows and are trying to keep your car clean, [and your car isn't black] I don't know why you'd do this. I would like to see a pic on a tinted Super Black, though!

i think on a white car with tints...it looks out of place....especially with really dark tints. I don't know how it's gonna look on mine (5% back, 35% front) i'm not even gonna try.
-Igor911 ...hey i'm wonder wat light bulb did you use to make that caution light (the one on the top of your headlights) blueish??? mine are like completely yellow it's kinda nasty.

1. its easier to paint the whole door than to tape it off or whatever.
2. probably sealing issues to prevent rust
maybe theres another reason

don pointed this out to me when i first brought my car to him, but my thoughts were that i had dark tint, and my chrome trim was blacked out, so keeping the black tape there kept the uniformity of the windows. Gbauers looks good cuz theres not tint there, but i dont know, i kind of think it should be black on those guys who have tint.

i cant decide whether to chrome the pillars, or black out everything.. i have a silver max that is soon to be tinted.. your car flows smoothly all blacked out but i dunno if its just because its a darker color. either way if anyone has a silver max and peels off the tape plz post some pics, im not daring enough to do it yet =\
