kelly blue book, accurate?

I did a kbb on my 03 max and it came out way more then i thought, so my question is how accurate is it? it said my 03 max was like 20k, i dought i would get that much.

Just wondering, might sell it outright for a Z possibly.

thanks,

KBB is a guide, not a rule. Compare it with NADA, Edmunds, etc, and your local market to decide how much to sell for.

I would check Edmunds and NADA as well and average it out.

go to cars.com or autotrader.com and check out some real prices.

kbb is pretty accurate, I found my car 1.5 grand below kbb value but it was a long two months of research and another month of test driving in places from Virginia to Connecticut.

yeah, when i had to replace my 02 i checked kbb and found the price wasn't very accurated based of what i saw in the market place. It seems NADA is more on par what the prices are gonna be!!!

I have always found KBB to be way too high. I just paid $4200 under their price for my Max. Edmunds is closer, but really only looking at Autotrader and cars.com will get you a good idea.

I dunno.. I saw some stealerships selling 2002-2003 max's for $20-21K on autotrader.com.

Funny, when the 6th gen's first came out, you couldn't sell a 2002 for more than $15k.

look on http://www.ebay.com for true market value. it's the world's marketplace, and reflects the most accurate pricing.

Autotrader and cars.com prices are advertised prices NOT selling prices. There's 2000 maximas on autotrader and cars.com for $20,000.

KBB is way too high for their retail price and way too low for their trade in price. The best price would be edmunds.com private party value.

You have to remember that both NADA and KBB exist to help dealers make as much money as possible. Consider the source.

Ebay's prices are pretty much all over the place. There's some cars that go at or less than trade in and others that go for around the private party price. Ebay is not a perfectly competitive and efficient market. Geographical limitations prevent it from being such.

Hey man i hear ya, i was surprised to hear hour cars are pushing 20k asking price.

I'm gonna sell it to a private party even though i hate doing that i don't want to get ripped for a few grand just because i'm lazy and want to trade it in.

kbb, autotrader, edmunds or what ever are just a guide, the web sites have no clue about whats going on in the market.
if your tradeing in your car then the dealership is going by the blackbook for the value of you vechile, and blackbooks are put out i think about 4 times a year that is the only source they use too. besides (for argument sake) if you use kbb it asks for your zip code, find a zip code on the other side of the country or in a different area/climate then you live and the results will be a lot different.

Trade-in values can vary wildly as well. I was recently offered $6500 by one dealer and $4500 by another the same day. Funny thing was that the first was also offering a better deal on the truck I wanted. But I ended up selling on my own for $8000 in 3 days.
