Scuff Mark Repair

This afternoon, while in a hurry when backing out my car from the garage, I accidentally scraped the left wheel well fender against the wood garage door jamb, leaving scuff marks about 4 inches long and half inch wide on the car. Since the garage door is painted white, the scuff marks are whitish looking. I tried removing the scuff marks with macquiars (spelling?), but they are still there. I can't tell whether the scuff marks are paint from the garage door or the silver paint from the car has be scraped off leaving the base white color. Other than the scuff marks, my car is in prestine condition. Any suggestion as how to take care of this little problem? Any help will be appreciated.

I've fixed something like this on a friends car. There's a good chance that's just paint from the garage door.

Wash the area first, then slowly rub the area with a clay bar. If it starts coming off you're in luck. After that's done, apply a medium polish then a mild one to clear it all off.

This may not get rid of any deep scratches, but it'll at least take scuff. You can also try a compound or a heavy polish before doing the medium. You can refer to this chart to see what i'm talking about:

Thanks, Soundmike. Looks like I need the heavy duty stuff rated at 8 to 10, rather than the swirl removal grade rated at 3. Hopefully it will work.

I should of known

when I read your post that you lived in Jersey. That black stripe your seeing on cars is Lynnes Nissan in Bloomfield's idea of hiding scratches on there used cars bumpers. They spray the bumper with black undercoating to make it look like it is a special protection for the bumper and the car looks like shhh it.

Yeah I found out that it was Lynnes putting it on the bumpers of their used cars. Its actually a graphite strip which is scratch proof. Its made with the material that is used on the floor deck of pickup trucks. Those strips only look good on black and grey though. Wanna know the funny part? Lynnes wont even tell me where to get it or even sell it to me.

If you really want it done, talk w/ the service people. I'm sure they can do it for you. I can't think of her name, but there is a service girl there. Talk w/her and see if you can get it done. Good luck.

It turns out that the scuff marks are actually white paint from my garage car. They came off very easily with a bit of rubbing alcohol. Whew!
