VG30DETT Swap?
I was thinking about this in the shower this morning. Could you do a VG30DETT (twin turbo 300zx) swap in to a 5.5gen? I remeber a while ago someone saying then wanted to do a SR20 swap but since you were going from a 6 cycl. to a 4 cycl. that it wouldn't be worth it. But with this you lose .5 displacement (none on a 5th gen) and its still a v-6. Anyone heard of someone doing this? I think that it would fit because it is a smaller engine. Could this be possible?

not sure about the swap, but it would probably be easier and cheaper to just fabricate some turbo manifolds for your vq35de and build a turbo kit. Probably make the same if not more power. The swap seems like it would be real difficult, due to the setup(mainly turbo setup) of the engine in a rwd car.

The SR20 swap you reference was a troll post.
VG30DETT swap into a 5.5 gen: new ECU, trans, mounts, (would it clear the fenders and firewall?), new engine harness, etc, etc... why bother for an engine rated only +40hp more than your Max's VQ35DE? Also the TT's turbos are slightly undersized and tend to eat bearings every 50k. And where would you mount the intercooler and plumbing at, anyway?
Free up some HP with basic bolt-ons such as an intake, exhaust, UDPs, timing advance, etc. You'll be fairly close to VG30DETT in output without spending $5,000 and dealing with the massive stress and headaches.
If you really want to break the 300+hp barrier there are turbo kits being fabbed for our cars and motors by enterprising .org members (check out the FI forum) and Stillen makes a 350Z turbo kit that may or may not be adaptable. The VQ has a nice, flat torque curve, so it might be more amenable to supercharging than a turbo.

VG30DETT is a stronger engine, its pretty much bullet proof. But installing it in a Maxima is not possible. Nissan builds 2 types of engines, ones designed for boost, and ones designed for NA. VQ/VK/QR all share alot of technologies amongst eachother, but they where not designed for boost from the factory- VQ30DET has diff internalls that are boost friendly. SR/VH/CA engines are all boost friendly motors, they came turbocharged from the factory and not much differed between the NA and turbo versions of those motors. VH45DE motor in the Q45 was used in the Nissan R390 road car that was modified to run boost and run in LeMans- engine code VRH35DETT, and you can clearly see the motor was seriously overbuilt for the car it was originaly installed in- 91-96 Q45s.

VQ30DET…? Which Nissan uses that engine?

Cima, and Cedric- both RWD variants pushing 280PS stock- due to the Japanesse HP law which says 280PS is the most you can ADVERTISE (this limit has been lifted last year). Most likely pushes bout 300-310HP stock without the improvised 280PS limit. Tilley99 had this engine in his 4th gen, but lots of modifications had to be made to fit.

ah, the twin turbo engine into a maxima topic. Why does this sound so familiar? I remember the main issue back in the day was takin a two intake manifold setup and putting it into a car with a 1 intake assembly. A lot may have to be changed...but its much easier to single turbo a VQ engine....as stated above.

Won't work: 300 was a RWD vehicle. Nuff said.
Instead, look into what Tilley is doing: VQ32 hybrid engine w/ 18 psi boost and a 75 shot just for kicks. Way more power than the 300 put out and would cost less to build (although far more time consuming).
