Nissan factory OEM rotors...why use them? (Useless!)

Yeasterday, I decided to change my front brake pads and noticed my rotors were "scoring" the inner pads. It appeared the pads were riding along the rust from the lining of the rotors. At the time, I didn't think I needed new rotors (they were less than 2 years old), so I just wanted to replace the pads. Now, I have to buy new rotors. Has this happened to anyone else? I know our cars are prone for warped rotors, but I think Nissan should take note in taking a step in making better maintenance parts, don't you think? It also seems that they are trying to make it more difficult to work on our cars. Man, isn't hard to get those front rotors off? I had to use all my force to get those b$stards off! In fact, I had trouble with the rear calipers, also, when changing the brakes last year. Ugggh, does anyone else feel my pain? Well, this does give me an excuse to upgrade to better performance rotors and pads. I heard Hawk pads are good. But, what about rotors? What do you guys recommend? Also, here is what my old pads looked like when I had taken them off....

i feel your pain man! ive even had to change the rear calipers because one of them siezed, the other ones seal ripped. as far as rotors u absolutly cant go wrong with brembo blanks. $200 on the group deal they will last forever (comapred to oem). if u want slotted they are only like 10 more each. great rotors, ive got 10k on them they look brand new! ive heard oem pads are actually good on our cars, green stuff id good too.

I have nothing but good luck with my brakes. No warping of rotors and everything seems to be ship shape

Its not the rotors that are at fault- its those cheap OEM Nissan brake pads, or any OEM pads for that matter. Acuras are very prone to warping rotors also and we do alot of them in the shop, especially if the car is driven hard (something you can judge by, amount of trannies they got repleaced- gotta love it). I have removed my 6th gen rotors and TTZ calipers due to reasons I won't bring up... but I run NAPA- made in China 23 dollars A POP OEM rotors in the front with OEM calipers, Goodridge Stainless Steel lines, Motul RBF600 brake fluid and Hawk HPS brake pads. I have never warped my OEM rotors with Hawks, but I warped my brakes plenty of time with OEM Nissan pads. I made the mistake once by repleacing my worn out OEM front pads with another set of OEM Nissan pads- just to have warped rotors all over again in a few miles, and lots of dusting- plus the life of the pads on the 2nd set of brakes was terrible compared to the 1st ones which came with the car. I got bout 38K miles out of the brakes which came with my car, the 2nd set lasted me to 54K miles- and brake wear indicator was already squaling on the pass front rotor. I went with Hawks then, repleaced them again at 86K, and got Hawks one more time. I upgraded my brakes to the big TTZ ones around 100K miles and my Hawks where almost gone again. I never wapred my rotors with Hawks, and I run those on all my cars.

Wow...thanks for the valuable input. My car is going to sit for a couple of days until I decide what to buy. So, you say you had great experience with Hawk pads? I'm trying to deal with anything worthwhile besides Nissan brands.

2 cents - I wish I'd spent a bit more and gotten zinc/whatever-plated to reduce rust on my new rotors (I got Brembo blanks). Depressing to see them coated with rust within 2 weeks.

Hawk HPS pads are running great for me too.

It's time to start looking for new rotors and pads for me. While making a gradual stop, my steering wheel felt like it was going to come off in my hands. Do the powerslots make a lot of noise when stopping(due to the slots)? Also, does anyone know where I can find Hawk HPS pads for the 02-03?

i got brembo slotted, and hawks hps, the truth is the braking is different, but not that much different. the only issue i have with hawks is right before the car stops, like when its at it last mph they make this grinding noise. so you need to like train you self to work the pedal so it woudn't grind on the rotors. but besides that, its not a bad set up. if i had to do it again i would of went with blank instead of slotted, but since the difference was like 20 bucks i'm really not shedding tears about it.

If i had those small 2000-2001 brakes, I would do the Blemco BBK if I were you.

What do you guys think is the quietest and dust the least brake pads other than OEM? I've had bad experience with Hawk HPS pads that make way too much noise. Any others you guys recommend? I also heard that Axxis pads all make noise too. Thanks for the help

My HPS make absolutely NO noise what so ever- key to this is amount of anti squal compond on the back of the brake pad and the right break in procedure. I do not recomend any slotted or drilled rotors, they are a waste of $$$. I had slotted rotors before (forgot to mention it) and I hated them, braking performance was worse than with OEM replacement rotors. I removed those POS PowerSlots, sanded the brake pads down a little bit and reinstalled them. Broke the pads in again with new OEM rotors and braking performance was greatly improved. My car stops better than it did with TTZ calipers and 04 Maxima slotted and drilled rotors. I kept getting nasty brake fade (green fade) from those TTZ/04 Rotors on Hawk HPS pads, one of the reasons I sold em. I did my brake upgrade just for looks pretty much, and I am back on my old rusty looking OEM calipers now. I'm saving up for the Brembo GT brake kit.

My front rotors are scored badly, but i have no $$$ to get them replaced. Damn stock brakes. I've already had to replace pads all around and the rear rotors warped really bad so those were replaced.
