Help

I had 225/40/18 tires and the car drove like crap in comparison with the stock wheels which are back on the car 225/50/17. Yes, the tires were balanced but I never got an alignment. I believe it had something to do with the tire size. Luckily the tires had a defect and I’m getting new tires. However, I can’t decide between 245/40/18 or 235/45/18. Does anyone have a suggestion that is knowledgeable in this area as to which choice would be best for 18 by 8 wheels? I have the rims for sale in the sales thread, but I might keep them since no one has offered to buy them.
Thanks

I presently have 245/40/18 tires on 18x8 G35C rims. I also have Illumina struts with S-Tech springs. The ride is firm but not too stiff and there are no rubbing issues.

I have 235/40/18 tires on G35C wheels. I can definitely tell the difference between the my stock 17s and the 18s but it isn't that bad.

Thanks, but I think since 245/40/18 is the smallest Diameter Difference: 0.55% of the 2 choices, I will go with that.

Is that why you chose that size?

Yup, that was the main reason. I liked that they were 245 wide, too.

Typically the smaller the sidewall, the harsher the ride.

I went with the Plus1 setup for my SE. From 225/55/17 to 235/45/18 tire on G35 18X8s. The ride is very good with no rubbing. I would have gone with 40 series tires, but the roads here in Hawaii are pretty bad.
