auto shifter problem

I am having a problem getting my car out of park. I have a 2000 SE Auto. When I push the brake in to get the car out of park it won't work. I can hear a clicking noise like it is trying to work. If i sit there and keep hitting the brake it will eventually disingage. It seem like it happens less in warmer weather. Its like the shifter is not getting a signal from the brake. Does anyone have any ideas? I appriciate the help.

try engaging your parking brake whenever you park (before releasing the brake pedal).

You may have a PNP (Park Neutral Position) Sensor issue ? In the Haynes manual there is a section to correct the position of the sensor -- hope that helps.

some also refer to this as the neutral safety switch.

Do what lcf said. I used to never use my parking brake because I didn't think there was a point. I noticed it was hard sometimes, especially on a slight incline to shift out of park. Too much pressure on your transmission to keep the car still and that is why sometimes it is hard to shift. Once I started using the parking brake(the correct way), I never had the problem again.

Yeah ebrake is the best bet and also shift to drive or reverse and then let the ebrake go
