What to look for in a 5th gen?

Alright I own a 4th gen right now, but have been working my tail off, and very soon I will be in the market for a new car. The 5th generation maxima is so damn sexy, it will probably be my choice. With that said, I was wondering what I should be looking for in one, Why do all of you like yours, what dont you like about it? What is a relatively good price for one? As always, feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Go for an '01 ae. I have an 03 SE and though I love the power, I hate the oil consumption. The 01's have a lot more options available for aftermarket power: T/C's, S/C's, ect so you can make up for that .5 liters really quick and still have a reliable motor.

I have an AE. Everything that made the car AE has been changed. If you plan on doin tons of mods, go with a regular SE. If you just want some bolt-ons for fun, AE's R 4 U.

Not too much to complain about - rotors warp, I wish it would handle a little better, kind of notchy shift action, and wind noise. Other than that, I think they're great cars. Still no rattles or squeaks with 125K on the odo.
Just don't go racin' your freind's S/C Z...

well, that's really not true at all....there are plenty of "options" for performance parts on the autos as well (full suspension, brakes, exhaust, intake, pulleys, tranny coolers, etc etc etc)...

I do agree that a 5speed is preferable to autotragic though

I'd go for an 03. Make sure you have compression check done, listen for the chain rattle when you first start it up, get ext. warranty if you can plus an inspection of course. Also check the blows CD changer and go for the 6 spd. Personally I'm not overly impressed with the the refinement of this gen Maxima, though it is good over all it's not as good as it should be.
