Problems with 2k SEs?

Hello all, newbie here. This might have been posted somewhere already but this place is so huge, it's hard to know for sure.

I'm looking at buying a 2000 SE, 5-speed, black leather, 66k miles. Are there any problem areas for this year/model? Anything I should pay close attention to?

Thanks a bunch. I look forward to having yet another message board to waste my day away with.

Best way to start... look through the TSBs:

Then read through the Stickies and do a search for more info because there are indeed plenty of discussions like this out there:

most common are mass air flow sensor, and ignition coils. car holds up very well though, especially the interior, i used to have a 2k 5speed sold it at 120K. still running strong. Great car though.

Also watch out for the Bank 1 Precat and computer programming that goes with it. They set the tolerance too tight and the Precat was a faulty design. DaveB or another good dealer can get it for you at a discount if it goes out, but that's warrantied up to like 80K (unsure of the # of yrs the Feds require).

i have 141K+ miles on my MAF and still going strong. Coils are known to go bad; however I only have replaced one about 35K ago. Only thing that sucks is the paint. Front of my car is like a bag of Lays.

I bought my 2k max at 88k miles and so far have had to replace the tires, MAF, ignition coils, seat heater element, and part of the transmission (didn't involve myself in this one.) all totaling up to ~ $3000 - $3200

All of the above were pretty much necessary replacements. I would check your potential car's repair history and warranty work before purchase.

I love my max, but I have a lot of money in it just in repairs.

capecod,
I would suggest you wait until your trial period is up, rather than whoring peoples threads. Those kind of things get you banned. Just a heads up, before you try to ***** any more threads.

I've had to replace a couple o2 sensors on my 2000 SE. Now my big problem is my clutch is slipping big time. Other then that i've had no other problems thus far and the car was bought new in September of 1999.

I leave mine off . so the light is on . every time you turn off the car it should reset to TCS on with the light out. If it's still on then there may be a problem.
Email if you have any more questions.
