leaking cv boot...will this fix work??

the boot itself is very good, no crack, its leaking grease where it meets the axel, maybe a bean size amount per week (for about 4 weeks). its most likely due to that metal clamp being loose or something because the boot seems fine.

i wanted to know will putting a hose clamp or even better maybe a strong zip tie on it stop the leak or can it cause further damage to the boot

here are a few pics i took the leak, its on the left side of the axel on the first pic. http://www.sounddomain.com/ride/570891/2

the clamp should do the work........ keep an eye on it... if it doesn't well might have to replace the boot

if there is still grease leaking out, the cv join should be good, and putting a hose clamp will fix the problem. make sure the old hose clamp did not cut into the boot itself with a sharp edge, and that's the reason for leaking. i would get the same type of clamp as you have now. they have a different fastening mechanism, and will not come loose. the standard hose clamps have a screw, and it may loosen over time.

what i did was just place a new screw type clamp over the old one, made if fairly tight, i didnt want to start cutting the old one n maybe damage the boot.

you can buy the actual CV boot clamps, but they usually need a special tool to be installed. i have had a dryer clamp on my outer boot for months with no ill effects. it will work perfectly fine.

just buy a new axle theyre like $50.00 bucks. solve all ur problems. Sometimes spending a lil more money is worth not having the aggrivations.

well what i did was, take off the old clamp, and put on a new screw type clamp. i dont know weather to make it really tight because i dont want it to eat into the rubber. guess ill see how it goes.

I had the same issue of excessive grease leaking out...so far the screw hose clamp has worked. Only thing i found out is that on one clamp, the screw started to work itself out. I used some thread lock, and about 20K miles its' holding.
