Is it my hood?

I noticed that after my headlight was stolen last may, I have a rattle coming from the front of my car going over bumps. Earlier today, I tightened the four bolts that attach the hood to the two brackets attaching the hood to the car being that I was able to. Took the car around the block and noticed no difference at all. While locked, I can push the hood down a little bit and it will pop back up like all hoods do. However, I can also slightly pull the hood up while it is locked. Can anyone else do this? If this is why I am getting the rattling sound, what do I have to tighten to make it stop? The hood looks flush on the passenger side, the side the light was stolen from if that helps....

I never heard of anyone getting their hood stolen - tough times we live in I guess. The hood latching mechanism is adjustable however. Loosen the two bolts holdling the latching mechanishm to the bracket and adjust until there is no play.

I had a hood rattle which I solved by adjusting the two rubber bumpstops.

Its the latch on the hood itself, i can almost guarantee it. Do what i did to find out #1 grab electrical tape (black), #2 Wrap the latch several times maybe about 3 to 4 passes. #3 Now that the latch is bulky close the hood and take it for a drive. #4 let me know what happens

Alrighty, I'll try that right now, not sure if I have electrical tape though. If not, hockey tape will have to do.

Ok, had no electrical, so I went with the hockey tape. Did about 4 or 5 passes and closed the hood. Wow, I can't pick it up anymore nor does it make a sound when I try to lift it. I am blocked in right now so I will let you guys know what happens on tomorrow morning's commute. Thanks a lot k2max, I think its going to work!

And the problems have been fixed! I also used to hear an odd sound coming from the front of the car when I would touch the gas or brake, but now that I taped that latch, I didn't hear the rattle or that other odd sound. Thanks for helping me kill two birds with one stone.

The only thing left which you may be able to help me with is my driver side front door. While driving sometimes, it makes a rattle noise. Just started a few weeks ago. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. When it is making that noise, if I push the door out or pull it in, it stops. Any ideas? It can happen when it is locked or not and regaurdless of my windows being up or down.

hey I had same hood problem as you with original and the one I replaced, I currently have epoxy on the latch ring to make it fatter. Bought a new latch thinking the hole in the hole in original was too big but turned out they all like that. I was able to get rid of noise but still can't get rid of the hood vibration after adjusting the rubber stoppers.

Also my driver side door has panel noise, our cars must have been put together buy the same idiot. I've been doing wd40 but it can't be good especially with the smell

We just can't stand noises can we. Maybe we should have bought a Lexus... Nah I love my Max who cares about the weird noises i'll live with it. About the hood problem good to know it worked out for you. Now there is a TSB out for hood vibration. I believe all Nissan does is put two strips of weather stripping above the headlights to get rid of the vibration. I think i'll try it this weekend. It's kind of scary when im going down the freeway and the hood looks as if it wants to lift. As for the panel noise i just deal with it. My Max will never be the same, not since i got t-boned on my right rear door.
