stupid question

how long is it ok for to drive around with the SES light undiagnosed? its gone on several times before, but because of the the gas cap, so it went off after several hundred miles. now i think its on due to a sensor. its been on for about 600 miles now, i just cant seem to get the time to go to autozone and have it diagnosed. have i done any damage at this point?

Goto Autozone and have the code pulled... Its free and will tell you what exactly is the problem...

Thats not always true. The codes tell you what is wrong or bad, what they don't tell you is why the problem occured in the first place. Like if you have a bad o2 sensor, there might be another prob makin the car run real rich wich could make the o2 sensor go bad. You really should take your car to a mechanic. to get the problem properly diagnosed.

well I have been driving for around 2 years with the SES on and will not stop at autozone to find out that my O2 sensors are bad... I already know that. So no harm done yet....

I sold my last max with the check engine light on. Its is still on from what i hear after 2 years. The light was because the evap control module went bad so i vented the recirculating gas from the tank to atmosphere instead of the engine, and capped the evap control module. Runs like a champ =) Find out what the code is!...could be a real easy fix.
