rear suspension question
rear suspension question
I was hoping someone here could help me out. I need the rear axle beam for my 2001 Maxima SE (got into an accident) from hub to hub. Does anyone know if that beam is the same rear axle beam from the 4th Gen Maximas? Im having trouble finding one used and locally see people parting out 4th Gen Maximas. Lastly, does anyone know where I might be able to score one?
Thanks

I bought a whole driver side suspension assembly almost perfect condition for $568 whereas dealer easily charges $1700. This was from an auto dismantler.
Good call on car-part.com
found an auto dismantler not even 10 mins from my house with it. $400 for the rear beam with the disc brake assembly included. I wont be needing the brakes so I'll post it up for sale when I get it apart.
Thanks again

Damn I was quoted $700 here from LNS auto. Ship me one too! Apparantly the previous owner must have jumped a curb pretty good. At least thats what all the mechanics that have taken a look speculate. Sucks, I feel your pain brotha.

I got a good one, all assembled even has wheel bearings and rotors on it ! You can have it for 100 bux, but you need to drive out to Chicago to get it
I got it in order to do my ES bushings, and ended up just doing bushings on my original beam thats on the car.

what happened with my car was that I hydroplaned and slid sideways. I hit a curb with the passenger side rear wheel, that pushed the passenger side rear wheel under the car and the driver side rear wheel was pushed out 3" from the fender. The body was slightly tweaked as there was a gap in my trunk. Anyways, the body ship tweaked the body back perfectly and said they installed new rear suspension components. When I got the car back, it was moaning pretty loudly from the rear wheel bearings on the highway, so they replaced them. Got the car back and everything was fine, the handling seemed a little twitchy but I lived with it. I installed new tires and about 6-8 months later I happened to look under the car and the inside of both rear tires was worn down to the cords but the outside of the rear wheels looked brand new. I was like WTF, so I bought 2 used tires and a few months later same ****, the insides worn down while the outside of the rear tires looked brand new. So im thinking they never replaced the rear beam, they probably fixed it up best they could. That is the reason im looking to replace it. Anybody have any ideas on what else it could be, as the rear suspension is non adjustable. Sorry for the long post, but looking for alternative solutions is also good.
Thanks

Nope, I've got the same problem. I didnt notice when I bought the car because I only looked at the outside of the tire, but the inside shoulder was just like yours, down to the cords. I have since bought brand new tires all the way around but I dont want to burn through them like the last pair. Expensive problem. Anyways everyone I have talked to says that this is the problem. Looks like greyhound might be having a rear assembly taking up there seats from chicago to gainesville pretty soon if Blackbird is for real. Sorry but I'm in the same boat. It's the only solution...especially if your planning to drop the car down the road at all.

I am for real I will sell it for 100 bux. Seems like the locals who HAD the chance to pick it up from me in the past would reather live with tirewear than invest in a new beam- you know who you are ! Ofcourse shipping is extra, it weights around 200lbs if not more. Let me know if you are interested in it, my zip code is 60194. I don't have ANY clue as to which way it would be the cheapest to send it. Lemme know what ya find as far as shipping goes, and then just pay me the amount over the 100 dollars and we are set.
