2500 RPMS at 60 MPH? AUTO
I have noticed that early in the morning when my auto trans is still warning up that when I am going 60 the engine is turning 2500rpms (the engine has warmed up). After 10 minutes the engine runs at just over 2k when I am going 60. Obviously I am experiencing slippage, is this normal? I know I am not in third, because third puts me around 3K. Is this something I should worry about? I have ~45k on the car.
yes.. even though ur engine is warm, ur tranny fluid isn't at a good heat level yet, and while it heats up, it'll expand and take up more space in the tranny case and more importantly the torque converter. should be fine

Or the tq cnvtr will just lock up according to the temp sensor in the tranny
It actually is slipping, but its not bad for it at all. The engine is just turning faster than the transmission cause its pushing the fluid around to warm it up, after its warm the torque converter actually locks up like a manual clutch in 4th gear, thats why youll get worse gas mileage if your torque convertor lockup solenoid goes cause youll be running higher rpm's than you should all the time.
Thats why it seems to shift 5 gears, i learned this when i first got my grand am back when i was 16, i knew it was a 4 speed auto but seemed to shift into a 5th gear. just the TC
