Is this really a GLE (check this pictures out)Bought grey lustre SE instead pics here

My 00 Max was totalled so Im in the market for another one. I came across this car and believe me Im Just baffled. Its like A GLE with SE features. Now if you look carefully, you will see the black tail lights (SE right), the Spoiler (SE right), The third break light(GLE right) the rims look a little like GLE but just check out the interior. It says nothing but GLE from the black dash cluster to the wood trim.
Please help cos Im really confused. I want to buy this car so immediate feedbacks needed.
Thanks
Here are the pics

leather...check
exterior shots would help. Chrome exterior door handles are a dead giveaway to a GLE...

Leather + chrome exterior door handles = GLE

It looks like a GLE with SE taillight swap. The interior looks like a GLE and remember SE comes with dark emblems on the trunk not the chrome ones. Only thing SE about the car that the pictures show would be taillights.

Here are some pictures of my SE... hope the comparison helps.

The door handles are chrome. And please remember that it has black cluster and a third brake light in the back which has GLE written all over it.
And I forgot to mention its a 2001 Maxima

here is a picture of the car from the side
Notice the Chrome door handles

Also, SE's will have a black steering wheel with leather wrapped around it, along with leather wrapped around the shifter.

GLE.

As you said, SEs do not have the 3rd brake light on the parcel shelf as they all came with a spoiler and the spoiler has the lights. (I am having déjà vu all over again!) Also 2000 SE`s emblems were 'smoked', as can be seen in Sammzway's pics.

I carfaxed the car and no major accidents was reported. It did mention a minor accident though.
Im guess I should go for the car since carfax has a buy back guarantee on it.

You could also just call Nissan USA with the VIN and have em look up the factory options/trim for you.

it's a GLE. that accident was probably a read ender, so they replaced the lights and trunk/spoiler with SE ones.

Thanks guys

I ended up not buying this car. For 2 reasons. Its a GLE with traction control and plus the guy selling it was not really honest with me. I ended up buying a 00
SE with cloth interior. It has 117K miles. I bought it today 12/08/05 for $6500. Its like a DEJAVU all over again since my new car is an exact duplicate of my totaled Old car. Its grey.
Do you guys have a complete black or gray leather interior for sale?

Am I wrong or is a "minor" accident classified as non-salvaged? I mean the car could have theoratically been in an accident that caused $4999.99 and still be considered "minor".... I would say find out where the repair work was preformed personally call them and check their reputation. If he isn't willing to provide receipts of the damage repair there is probably a very good reason. Also check the shop out yourself. He could have gotten a check cut for $4900 in damages and took it to a second or third rate shop and put chinese crap on.. Check the rear bumper cover for proper aligned holes, newer welds, etc. I wouldn't touch the thing without first seeing the repair receipt and checking the shops reputation myself. my $.02 worth

he told me the accident was a fron impact. He also told me he was the only owner. Carfax told gave me 3 estimated owners plus 2 accidents. 1 was passenger fender impact and the second was a rear ender which makes sense with the SE tail lights. I just found out from Nissan that most of their 01 GLEs come with rear spoiler.

Whatever it is, it looks nice with the black wheels!

Here's Nissan info on the 2k3 model

http://www.nissannews.com/nissan/200...ma/index.shtml

My GLE has side airbags, which I gather were optional only on the SE Titanium edition, so you can look for other features on that edition (the aluminum sills, for one) to try and deduce which is which.

Hope that helps

He is a freaking liar and has ALOT to hide. Stay away from this car. If he had been honest from the beginning, then MAYBE with some research of your own and checking of body/frame, etc. As I was told just a few short days ago, If the deal is to good to be true, it probably is...... If you buy this my friend, you are begging for disappointment. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS - NO MATTER HOW "GOOD OF A DEAL" YOU ARE TURNING DOWN!!!!!!

well I get different opinions just like I'm getting on here. And from the nissannews link Its all an option to have the extras. Does the front stabilizer bar give away that its an SE. not that its a big deal. they're all the same except I have 6 spd manual. 03 and mine has side airbags also

Sorry I didn't see the post where you said, you didn't buy it. Hell yea, that's a great deal. I just bought a 00 GLE that needs a small amount of work. Been asking if its a good deal for 2 days, noone will respond. Guess I'll give it a bump.

You got a great deal on that car (assuming it's in good condition). I bought a 2000 SE back in April with 165,500 miles, fully loaded except heated seats...but I think the interior was brand new (at least it looks like it, and it's black interior, when the code under the engine says it should be gray.) got mine for $6650...runs great

I have to ask...just from reading this post. Is the SE model more sought after than the GLE model? And if so, why is it better?

It depends on one's preference. The SE is much more "sportier" with stiffer suspension whereas the GLE model is more on the "luxurious" side with softer suspension and other things. The SE for that "sport" feel, and the GLE for that "luxury" feel.
