car has trouble starting in the cold

car has trouble starting in the cold

in the morning and whenever i leave my car outside for a while, when i start it, it hesitates. i went and got my battery checked and they said it was low..is this why it hesitates to start? or is there another reason? thanks guys

it might be, not sure, just buy a new battery. it saves the hassle of it dying on you when your away from home.

If it is cranking really slow, it is probably the battery. But if it cranks normally a long time but wont start, it is definitely not the battery.

I would be cautious on arbitrarily changing to a new battery. Check the fill level on all the cells of your battery. If they get low fill them with distilled water (not tap water.)

I have never had any problems with a maintained battery. By contrast, I have never gotten more than a couple years out of a maintenence free battery. Of course it has been a while. They may be better now.

yea its cranking slow and then starts up strong. hmm well i still have my stock battery which is 4 years old so i really should get a new battery soon.thanks for the info man

my boys 04spec-v does the same. he asked the dealer and they wnet on with some sob story about it takes a while sometime or something like that. We are still wondering. my guess may be a bad fpr on his.

As I said, you really ought to check the water level if you still have the stock battery before you run out and buy a new one. They are much better (when properly maintained) than a maintence-free battery. Mine is over five years old with almost 140k miles and it still cranks strong, even in the most bitter cold.
