Auto transmission solenoid pack

As the title states, I am looking for an transmission solenoid pack for my 2002. My transmission is slightly slipping from 2nd to 3rd. If you guys have an idea where to get one, please let me know. The AT light isn't blinking or anything. It started slipping out of nowhere. Can it be the TCM? If the TCM is faulty, will it throw a code?

Mine was being from 1-2, got the VB mod, and it hasn't acted up since. (~10,000 miles)

How much is the VB mod? A solenoid pack is around $260 I think. Should I just spend the extra money for the VB mod? What is the average downtime on the car?

Are you sure it's the solenoid pack and not the VB?

400$, and it depends on if they have a VB ready for you so that your downtime is minimized.

I read somewhere yesterday that a slipping 2nd to 3rd gear shift is from a faulty solenoid pack or TCM. How do I know for sure? Will a damaged VB have the same symptoms?

Use Lontar1's write-up for tranny drain, and then you'll see all the bolts.

How long did it take you to remove the VB?

You didn't read his write-up, located in his sig, about the tranny drain did you?

The mechanical portion is easy and doesn;t take that long ... it's waiting for the fluid to drain that't the most time consuming .. drink beer.

Total, 4 hours, but 3 of those were spent :

I've done 4 transmission fluid changes in 4 different Maximas already in the last 2 years. I am asking about the VB removal itself.

After the fluid is done draining, look up, there are IIRC 18 bolts that hold it in place...Loosen them and it should come off ...

Make sure when you re-install it, that all the o-rings re: the solenoids are put in place and do not lose any of them.( o-rings)

Thanks a lot. I was wondering if rebuilding the VB will also fix the solenoid pack? Is the solenoid pack a seperate unit? Is it outside of the transmission casing, or is it built within the VB?

How are you going to rebuild the VB?

The solenoids are internal, even moreso than the VB, you can see them when the VB comes out.

What I meant was sending the VB to www.maximumtuning.net. I am pretty sure it is my solenoid pack. I just found a picture of them. Okay, thanks again.

I called Dave B and he said that it usually is the SP that is causing the slippage. The only reason why people usually replace the VB, other than for performance (e.g. maximumtuning), is because the SP replacement did not fix the problem. He also said to diagnose it will probably cost more than just buying a new SP. I really don't know exactly what it is, but he said a slipping 1-2 or 2-3 shift is most likely a result of a faulty SP.

EDIT: I still want to do the VB mod though.

That would be great, seriously. Dave B said $293 plus 7 dollars shipping.

What exactly is the VB and what does the modification address? I think my 02 slips from 1-2. Just to confirm, I'm accelerating and if I back off the throttle a little, it will not upshift. It just hangs at a high RPM for a few seconds, then shifts. If doing the mod will help that, I will be all over purchasing whatever to fix that.

Sorry for the questions.

I do not think your tranny is slipping, it's because you let off the throttle, that's why it behaves as such.

If it does that during 100% WOT ... then you've got ptoblems.

For more explanation ---> VB = Valve Body --->

Does anybody know what the labor costs would be for replacing the solenoid pack? Extensive or trivial?

In this VB removal, it also shows how to remove the SP. A very easy process.

MY 2002 ISN'T SLIPPING, IT SEEMS TO SHIFT HARD FROM 1-2, ANY IDEAS? MY MECHANIC THINKS IT IS THE SOLENOIDS. IT SEEMS TO GET WORSE AS THE CAR GETS WARMER, WEATHER DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A FACTOR, COLD OR HOT. I'VE ALSO BEEN TOLD IT COULD BE CRANK OR CAM SENSOR????
