CD-R's and CD-RW's work just fine in mine, but they unit is NOT an MP3 reader, so the disks need to be recorded the traditional way.

We are taking about the bose head unit right? Not the Premium head unit right cause it didn't work for me since I have a Premium sound system. Sucks.

I just have the non-Bose unit (Clarion?) and once I did a test with a high-quality CD-RW disc and it worked. I thought "cool, this thing works with CD-RW so now I can burn music and use the discs over and over" so I went ahead a bought a bunch of these cheap CD-RW discs. As it turns out, the system couldn't recognize a single burned disc. Sucks. So for CD-RWs, you need to try the more expensive, high-quality discs. If you don't want to pay more for CD-RW discs, just go with CD-R discs.

Also, for CD-R discs, DO NOT buy the cheap brand made by Hotan! They come in spindles of 50, are 80-minute discs, are non-branded, cost less than $25.00 per spindle, have a silver top, and a very faint yellow tint recording side. Besides the fact that some CD-RW drives won't recognize these discs, the stereo system in my Maxima (as well as a portable CD player made by Panasonic for my Civic) experiences massive skipping with these. This was a BIG mistake purchase.

For good, cheap CD-Rs I was very surprised with the 100-pack 74-minute generics that CompUSA sells. I bought a pack just to try it out when it was on sale for $15.00. How can you beat that price?!? Unbranded, silver top, a green recording side. Just burn your music, put a CD label to protect the silver side from scratching off, and the Maxima loves it. No skipping whatsoever.

If you want a cool looking CD-R that works, the black 80-minute ones from Memorex are cool too. They have a black recording surface like PlayStation discs. $30.00 for a spindle of 50 branded discs. Not bad, and again, no skipping in the car. Great stuff.

yeah...

74 mins CDR is fine in Max and Pathfinder, both Bose and the changers. 80 min any brand tends to skip in the changers (both), but the head unit is fine. I only tried a few CDRW because I figured that the disks would get cheezed up in the car anyway (scratched), so I stuck with cheap CDR and didnt test many CDRW brands..

Have had no problems with my 2K1 BOSE. I use various brands of 80 minute CDR's. They are created using an Iomega-Zip-CD-650 using Adaptec's Easy CD Creator 4.

just tried an unbranded CD-RW burned with Easy CD Creator 3.5 on a Yamaha 6416 (SCSI) and it worked fine (they've played fine on my other car's Pioneer deck)

for CD-Rs, i use Mitsui Silver/Silver (74min) and Memorex Silver/Silver (80min) with no problems

Cheers

Yeah CD-Rs are no problem but when I tried a CD-RW it ejected it. I'll try it again and see what happens.

My BOSE head unit plays Imation disc's pretty well. I do have some problems w/ the Nissan 6 disc changer not reading all discs though..

Even w/ a 192k+ bitrate.. the Bose system sounds a bit "off" .. I usually get a headache from burned discs after an hour or so.. possibly a high frequency background.. not sure yet.. still "testing".

I'm assuming you convert from mp3 to wav, then burn to cda?
The high frequency seems to present itself more when the source mp3 bitrate is high... and I think you'll be able to hear it on any cdplayer you play it on. When I rip and burn from an original cd source, I don't hear any high frequency noise or clipping...
just a few observations...
