Automatic Ok??

Hey Guys I just sold my 99 se-l 5spd and now its time to replace it with the baby mobile for my wife. I'm thinking a 2k2 SE with an Auto or a 2k3 with Auto depending on the price etc.
How is everyones auto holding up?? I know the 4th gens and others had weak auto trannies, wasnt to sure about the 5th gen 2k2 and up.

Thanks guys.

There are cases of tranny failure on here, particulary GBAUER's which failed at 100,000 miles I believe. I don't think it's an epidemic in the 02/03s however, but some will argue that. I've had my car since new and it has about 65,000 miles on it with no signs of tranny failure. I flushed the fluid at 35,000 miles. Overall, I've been happy with the cars' reliability. Only major issue I've dealt with is BOSE HU acting up which is a very common problem.

Who said the A32's auto was weak... I'd say the A33B is a bit weaker than the A32 since tehy're essentially the same tranny but holding much more torque and weight. .... this answer comes from what has been on this site.

I have ~75k miles on my 2003 SE and so far the tranny works just fine. I do replace fluid/flush every 30k miles. I do drive it rather agressively.

Very true. I have an 02 Maxima and i beat the hell out of it everyday. Burnouts, racing, all the underground racing deeds. I just put a tranny cooler in about 65,000 miles so i mean my opinion could be biased. My car has 106,000 miles on the car, and the engine and tranny still run like new. This is a great everyday car, and with the right mods, it can become a great sports car too. I recommend it greatly-

I don't care how many mods you put on the Max, it will never be a great sports car. You drive a 4 door family sedan, get over it.

TXT we dont need that negativity here. a max can handle, look great and go fast with a lil work. as for the tranny, ive had mine for 73k and it all seems good. i have raced on it a few times in the past and it worked fine for that and still works fine.

He was saying the maxima is not a sports car (which it isn't)

when I had my 02 auto it was giving me trouble (starting to slip) @ 68k.

the guy next door to me just bought a 350Z convertible...nice looking car and all that. I almost laughed out loud at him when I noticed it was an auto. He was like "I know, I know ....but my wife can't drive stick - I've tried to teach her several times to no avail."

I feel really sorry for him

and how do you have an '02 charcoal Maxima se anniversary? Anniversary editions were not available in 02.
Infinitblast: If your wife drives like an average person (meaning she wont "beat the hell out of it") an auto will hold up well for her. Just keep up with the tranny flushes. And if its for a baby, get a GLE so you get the smoother ride and you dont get the "sport" suspension.

Stage 2......

Stage 2 VB mod, B&M Trans cooler with bypass & Mobil 1 SYN ATF. Protect your auto tranny. Give her everything she needs to operate properly & enjoy. I certainly do. 54000 miles & counting & she shifts on a dime.
