Identify the mystery hose!

I took off my air filter and my engine cover today, because I wanted to clean both of them. I'm sure I've seen this hose before, but I can't remember whether it was supposed to be attached to anything. I can't really find any nearby fittings where I might attach this hose, so I'm inclined to believe that it is supposed to be hanging free like that.

HELP ME IDENTIFY THIS MYSTERY HOSE!

It was hooked up to your snorkel I think, so it was unfiltered to start with.

Yes, that's why it's bent at 180 degree angle.

he means its ok to be unfiltered because it came that wasy from the factory and he knows it came that was because it obviously was not hooked to a filter because it doubles back on itself

Are you saying there is a valve to prevent air to go IN? Where is the air intake then?

this vent hose allows the transmission to "burp" out any air so that it doesn't cavitate within the valve body, torque convertor or any other part of the tranny. It is sort of the same principle as the overflow on the radiator cap that leads to the overflow tank. Air in either system is not ideal so it is allowed to escape.
