I have a new 2001 Maxima AE ...I am concerned about the proper care and upkeep of the leather. What should be done and how often? What products should be used? What should NOT be done? Thanks

Congrats!

Congrats on your purchase of a Max. You will love it. I bought mine 2 months ago and have leather as well. Search this forum. There are tons of threads about leather care.

Personally, I haven't "cleaned" or "conditioned" mine yet. You should every month or quarter. Thus far, I have just used a moist cotton towel to wipe them down. (What I do love is that doing that makes the new leather smell last forever!)

There are several brands out there and the threads on here have tons of descriptions but the one common theme is to use a cleaner and a conditioner seperately. Don't buy a two-in-one product because something will be missing. One product can't do both effectively is the mindset.

Hope you find some good info and have fun with the Max. Just be nice for the first 1000 miles so that she breaks in well and then PUNCH IT!

do a search, buddy...

there is a lot of ways doing it...
I clean it with eagle 1 leather cleaner
condition it with eagle 1 leather care (apply with ur bare hands and if it wont hurt ur hands....then it wont hurt the leahter, tat's my theory)

I do this every 2 weeks.

Welcome aboard!

See the sticky regarding cleaning your max at the top of the forum...its got answers to many of your cleaning needs.
Seems to be a preference for Lexol in that thread alternately....I use the german Zymol leather care package and it works great. Have fun driving.

Lexol

I've used Lexol products for years with excellent results.

The Meguiar's Gold Class leather stuff is also pretty good. I couldn't find Lexol anywhere in Toronto but that would probably have been my first choice.

First...good lookin' car; don't see many in that green, nice! Now, I have used Tanners cleaner and their conditioner, Lexus cleaner and their conditioner, and the meguire's cleaner/conditioner combo. My personal favorite is the Tanners. It smells wonderful and I think is best overall. Lexus smells like tanning oil, and Meguires doesn't smell great, but it does a good job. I've seen Tanners at wal-mart..about $4 per bottle.
