I told this guy I'd give him $4k and my 240sx for his '00 max. I'm pretty sure it's a gxe, it has no sunroof, cloth seats, and he has the SE taillights & spoiler under his mods. Blue book is about 9k. His max: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/533913

My 240:
'92 SE coupe
-RSR Race Springs (5kg front/4.5kg rear)
-KYB AGX Struts
-TCS F/R Strut bars
-F/R Brembo Cross-Drilled/Slotted Rotors
-R32 GTR Seats (both in good condition)
-will include 17" Koseis but no tires

I'm a little concerned about the tranny tho. I don't want future problems, but other than that it seems like a fair deal to me

Is there a warranty on the tranny? If it's a 12k/12mo transferrable sounds like a good trade to me..
If it's a backyard tranny shop that only offers a 90 day warranty on the tranny I would pass..
Keep in mind though 1000 on tranny...100 on brakes....He defiently drives it hard.

I'm pretty sure he got it done at a legit shop, not some hole in the wall, but I'll double check. This car is beautiful in person tho

he does maintain the car for the most part, but given that, what kind of potential problems am I looking at for a max w/ 70k miles?

Update: He said the shop gave him only a ONE year warranty on the tranny, and the only thing that was replaced was the bearings. He didn't know specifically what bearings, what bearings are likely to go out on a 5-spd tranny? Will it happen again?

I had my bearings go on my 5-spd at around 70k. Same ones as him, most likely. I don't know what they're called but it entailed replacing a whole kit of bearings and races. The tranny was taken completely out of the car, unassembled and reassembled. It isn't common but I know I'm not the only one who has had this repair.

it is possible to fumble a bearing job if you dont know what ur doing, right? I know where the shop is, so I can go back there if need be. Still seems like a steal to me.

Perhaps. Mine was done at AAMCO so I have the 12/12 and they do reliable work there. Good luck with the deal and we are awaiting your birth into the Maxima world!

even if I need to go back to the shop, I save about 2Gs on the trade vs. if I were to buy a max. I just talked to him last night, & I'm amped about picking it up.

Main drive bearing. Mine is in the shop as we speak for the same thing. I have 105,000 miles. 69,000 seems a little low to have this happen, but I am sure it is not unheard of. As long as the gears are o.k., it should be just fine.

Good looking car, sans the neon lights.

well at least it's a common problem I guess . And I could give a f|_|ck about the neon lights... maintenance comes first... mod removal later
