What is normal or closer to normal clutch engagement in our cars? Note: I'm on my second clutch but it feels very similar to my previous (stock) clutch.

1. Engagement nearly right off the floor with play at the top of the pedal (mine)

2. Engagement closer to the middle of the pedal with play at the bottom and top

I've heard the latter is normal for most cars but my car has, from what I recall, always done the former.

Do I need to get it looked at and/or bled?

Mine engages just about right off the floor which makes it harder to drive smoothly.

 

I don't have to push mine in very far for it to engage.

 

mine engages really close to the floor aswell

 

mine engages closer towards the middle.

 

Ok, that is what I remembered with the stock clutch and how I've always remembered this one. This is peace of mind for me. The comment about making it difficult to drive smoothly, I agree with. Yeah, I've gotten used to it, but it definitely happens frequently where I lug the engine or make too quick of a start.

 

I would say about half way or to the floor. But it has always been that way since i drove the car(even before it was mine).

I know how ur concerned, every other clutch i've driven has been right when i touch the pedal. But i guess its normal with our cars.

 

Explain. What happens when you don't touch the gas and just pull the clutch of the floor? Will it come close to stalling closer to the floor or closer to half way of the throw?

 

Yeah, that sort of upsets me. I've driven VWs and Bimmers and you can really tell where those engage. Mine is just so vague.

 

I would say its normal. I dont have an slipping or anything of that nature. I dont drive my car extemely hard, but yes I do get on it when I get that itch. My clutch feels fine. I let it out to fast sometimes and I shake the car but other then that its good. when i start letting off the pedal with no gas applied, my car will stall unless i have a slight roll in which if I let it out slow enough i will just start to coast in gear.

 

i had stock clutch which engaged low but there were problems. the pedal was hard as *****

now i have exedy stage 1 with oem t/o bearing and it engages in the middle, very little play in the beginning, a lot at the top.

My boy has a 96 max wit stock clutch and it engages earlier than any car i drove in. pedal is soft and shifting is a breeze.

i prefer a low engagement with very little play. I find myself creeping out of first gear extra slow when not racing cause i dont want to burn it.

 

my clutch engages fairly easy at the top and i have a 2000 maxima se with 74000 miles on it pearl white. Drives like a charm

 

Well mine's Super Black, that must be why.
