People with Headers

Do you need to tune your car right after a header install, such as purchasing an Apexi SAFC? I am going to buy a set of headers but will not be able to get an A/F controller for several months. Is that o.k.? Or do I need to do them together?
Thank You

I've been AFC-less for about a year...Get a dyno w/ A/F and see.

Yeah, i'e had headers for about 2-3 months and I didn't even buy a safc yet. Im going boost in about 2-3 months so I don't see why I should tune the car now. Im just gonna wait until after im boosted, then tune...

It’s not necessary for you to an AFC-2, but it does help out big time. Back when I re-dyno my car, it was running lean at 14.0-14.4 on the dynojet, my car made 182whp with bad o2 sensors. I tuned it with the AFC-2, and made 193.55 while still leaning out after 5.5k because of the 4 bad O2 sensors and the ECU, it wouldn’t allow me to richen it up at that point, so I left it alone.

But definitely get one and make sure your O2 sensors are plug in, and in working condition. Take it from somebody who doesn't know it all, but actuality done it all....

IIRC WOT maps use CPS and MAF, not o2 sensors.

I used a Sim, many felt that they are more reliable. Have not had a problem yet.

But if I follow the directions to relocate the sensor from hotshot. It will still work right?

I gained about 14 hp and torque dyno tuning with S-AFC2 before installing headers. The car only had Y-pipe, B-pipe and cold air intake. The car was running really rich in the higher RPM range.

I'm actually dyno tuning later today after installing Hotshot headers. I'm not expecting dramatic gains from it because it has already been leaned out some. I'll be posting on it later.

Running rich won't hurt the car. It just robs some power. I'd recomend the S-AFC2 tuning but it's not absolutly necessary.

It should, I think some people had problems with the extra wire adding resistance and giving a false code...

I decided not to F* with it and get a sim.

If you are not expecting dramatic gains from the headers then why did you get them? So would you say the Apexi and Y-pipe you had gave you 20 WHP?

I think he's expecting significant gains from the headers, just not from the a/f tuning, since it's already been done for the most part.

Uses the front O2 sensors, as well as the CPS and MAF. However, the rears are ignored (hence the "open loop" designation)
