Pimpin' tinted windshield?

Ok, many of you may have seen the decent looking purple/metallic tinted windsheilds that come stock on pontiac minivans for years. I notice them all the time, there alright, but nothing too crazy, but one time I saw a lincoln MKVIII with a sick looking one, it's hard to describe, but it was like that highly reflective, color changing material that is used on like 'official nfl product' tags, or 'microsoft authentic product', even the LG logo on my phone has it. It isn't really like chrome or a mirror, but it has this awesome metallic color morphing ability to it, it's kind of like the purple minivan ones except they are bronze/yellow/red/greenish. Are there any companies that make these windsheilds for our cars?? I'm sure they are VERY pricey, but if anyone has seen one in person they know how sick looking they are. Also, if someone knows where there are pictures of what I am talking about it would be cool to show others.

I believe that those windshields are polarized, not "tinted". It's a mirrored coating to reduce glare, not light transmittance. From the inside they are no darker than a normal clear windshield.

I would bet that putting that kind of coating on your maxima would be sure to get you ticketed though......even if the Pontiacs did have them.

Hey how is the visability with the 35% tint on your windows (Night and Day)? I've been wanting to get this done, but haven't talked to anyone who has this. BTW I have 5% fronts 2.5% rears. I'm guessing that made your other windows appear darker by eliminating some of the light coming in through your windshield.

P.S. I am very surprised I have had tint for about 3 years or so and never have gotten a ticket for my tint. I did have one cop look at the tint when a f-350 rear ended me and said it looked nice.

God I love our local cops.

Could you include some pics of what you're referring to? I looked around on google and every "metallic" windshield I found looked plain bad.

He's not talking about tint on the windshield, he's talking about the PPG "Sungate" windshield installed on a few Pontiac vans in the early 90s.

it was not a "tint" but a clear solar shield that only looks reflective on the outside, but does NOT look tinted on the inside.

HERE IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT, KRZZ350:

you guys are thread-jacking this guy. He doesn't care about windshield TINT....he wants the PPG stuff (which is not tint).

On my last car, I had Llumar's Platinum Plus tint, which is a semi-metallic film (highly reflective, but still see through). It was a silver color, though, that takes on the color of any tint or stain your windows already have.

Maybe this is just me I think its really a bad idea tinting the windshield. Not to even talk of the safety issues. Imagine someone having an accident cos they couldnt really see what was ahead. Plus have you guys noticed that the tints in the rear and the fron windows reflect on the windshield making it look as if it was tinted.

Just a thought or comment

if you are at fault in an accident, the insurance company may not pay for any damage if your windshield is tinted.

Thanks Irish, you're the man, not just for mentioning what I was about to (thread-jackers asking questions that there are many threads already discussing!), but for the link! That's the stuff, and those pics don't do it justice, when I saw it on that lincoln I almost crashed rubbernecking, it looked NASTY! Ok, so has anyone ever seen how a tintmeter works? The one that my town uses has to be able to slip over both sides of the glass, so you have to put the window down for the po-po to get a reading, my town's meter definitly wouldn't work on a windsheild, plus it's not really "tint" like window tint is, it doesn't affect light transmittance in the same way tint does, it's not dangerous, if anything it's safer due to reduced glare, I wouldn't even put 75 or 80% tint on my windsheild since in mass if it comes down more than 6 inches it's illegal, but I think this is legit. I'm going to contact them sometime soon, I'll let you guys know how much it cost's, it looks SICK, I want it on all 7 windows and maybe the mirrors to!!

It costed me more to have the windshield tinted than the fix-it ticket.

I had my windowsheild tinted in all of my cars. In my 91 SE-R, I had a head-on collision and the cops told me if I didn't have my window tinted, I would have went through it and i had my seatbelt on!

To the "TINT" guys.................

You guys shouldn't tell me that you can see everything good, because if someone is wearing something black (like a coat) you won't see him as fast as you wouldhave without the tint. Stick to sunglasses!

Back in the early to mid 90's Ford had an electronic film on some windshields that was used to keep ice from building up on the glass. My grandparents had a 93ish towncar with one of those windshields and there was a “de-ice” button on the dash that would melt everything off the glass in a couple minutes.

KRRZ did you find out anymore on how much the windshield costs? Or if there will be any legal problems with it (as I live in Mass too). If you get it let me know how it turns out and take some pics.

20% on my windshield, and limo all around. I paid $50 to do the windshield, thank god I have hid's in the headlights and fogs, it gets real dark at night,LOL. And just so you can tell how dark it is, I have a registration sticker, and inspection sticker in the windshield........check out the stickers in my sig on the windsheild, then look at the windshield in the pic above, LOL.

gold007eye you will absolutely not pass inspection in Mass with a tinted windshield, and the fine is $250 when you get caught plus they can make you peel it. Not worth the risk IMO.
