YOSH!!!

Seems like an interesting mod but what exactly does this thing do and how much would one of them run you? A big surprise for all those who answer both parts of that question!

A Random Technology Cat allows for a faster and more open flow of exhaust when compared to a stock cat.

It cost anywhere between $200-$250 dependant on where you buy it.

From what I understand it offers us negligible performance increase unless you are boosting or spraying.

It may be $180 if you order it directly from Random Technologies. Add in Tax and shipping and you will be pushing $200.

Are you thinking of getting one for your max there Deac?

It sounds like an interesting mod but...I dont know much about it. I'm trying to upgrade my exhaust system without going with some loud annoying muffler...this seems like it may be a worthwhile mod...I'm still looking for someone to make be a B-Pipe too.

guess what? there's GB on right now for $148 + shipping from Custommaxima ... his graph ... see my post in the GD section ... says that there is a 14 hp gain?

that sounds sketchy ...

14 hp from a new cat? hmmmmm....you are right, that sounds just a bit too much......My guess would be a gain of a few hp....

Just went on RT's site and that dyno graph is for a '95 Max. Don't know if that makes a big difference...

Perhaps you should call out WILLSE. He has an RT cat. He went by their shop here in Atlanta and ensured it fit the 5th Gens (since he was the first).

Well i just gutted my cat last night and its no 15 hp gain so no way an RT cat would be. The reason they got such a huge "gain" on that max is because it was old and probably had an old crusty clogged up cat on it. Then when they put the new one on there was a huge "gain" but probably not much over a new stock max...

also if you look, the 95 maxima was stock in the first run and it had the rt cat and a full catback exhaust on the 2nd run

14HP???? Gimme a break! I can see RT stating nonesense like that to try to boost sales. Even the http://www.custommaxima.com guys should know better than to state that on their website. IMO only!

I got this in an email from RT:

"Installation time should be 1/2-hour or less. This converter sells for $204 and has a 2-bolt flange on each end. You should see an increase of 7-10 horsepower at the wheels."

7-10 at the wheels?? Ya they forget to mention an intake, and cat-back on top of their Cat to get that...even then would be lucky to get 7-10 at the wheels!
