I've heard that only if your car makes noises when turning you don't have to replace them.

I'm getting illuminas/h-techs installed in two weeks. Unless they look like they need replacing, I will not replace them. After the installation I will vote.

How often.............

How often do you have to change them?
(In terms of miles.)

Thanks for the poll Kabir...

This item came up in my other thread and I'd like to hear an answer too.

I don't know how to tell if the mounts, boots, and bumpers "look" like they need to be replaced... and even if I did, I wouldn't know until I've got them off the car and then I'd need to order 'em and then take the car apart again... I'd rather not do that.

Is there some sort of guideline on how long the factory mounts, etc... should last? Will the car handle "better" with new mounts/boots/bumpers (particularly these) even if they DON'T need to be replaced?

I changed my stock to tein h-tech and illuminas and I used the same strut mount. I have had no problems (but I only have 43k on the car) I dont see a problem with changing it especailly if you have the extra $ for it. It will save you from having to do it at a later date.

Just a note that the KYB strut mounts/bumpers/boots from TireRack DO NOT include the bumpers & boots for 5th gen Maximas. I called to make sure and they said that even though the picture shows it, they only come with the mounts. Talk about misleading advertising. Glad I didn't order them.

Is there any way to determine whether or not my mounts, boots, and bumpers NEED to be replaced BEFORE I take the wheel and struts/springs off? The mechanic who checked out my car and said I needed to replace my front struts said that I "should" also replace my strut mounts, but I don't know if he was just trying to jerk me for more $$$.

I've heard, and I posted this before, that if you don't hear an unusual noise when turning (try it lock to lock at low or no speed) then you should be ok.
