Toyos......

I serached around in the tire forum, but couldn't find a definite answer. I want to get a set of proxes 4, but I am worried about rubbing issues since I am riding on progress springs. I was thinking about getting 225/45/18, but I need to know for sure if there will no rubbing. Also, if you think a different side will be more comfortable I am open to other TOYO options (I have a good deal on Toyos).

As of right now I am riding on Kumho ECSTA Supra 225/40/18 in the front and Kumho ECSTA ASX 225/40/18 in the rear. The ride is really rough. Thanks.

I'm getting Toyo T1R's this summer, 245/35/18 I think. Shouldn't have any rubbing issues...

235/40/18 is ideal for wheels that are 7.5 or 8" wide. I have that size in the Proxes 4

Because 225/45/18 is not the stock diameter replacement size, the proper size should be 235/40/18 this replaces the stock 225/50/17 or 215/55/16. Any variations affect your speedometer readings etc. Go with what you want I chose to go with 245/40/18 just to gain a little more rubber to ease the harshness while not deviating from stock by too much.

I can live with the speedo a little off. Basically is the fatter or taller tire going to be more comfortable.

why would you want skinny little 225's on a 8" wide rim?? More rubber on the road = better. It has nothing to do with ride quality.

Not to hijack this thread, but I have a quick question...

I have stock 17's on my SE right now, 225/50/17. Could I put on 225/45/17 without any problems? Thanks!

just like pontiac used to say "wider is better". however, since you said you wanted better ride quality which i assume means smoother, the 45 sidewall will be marginally more comfortable, and marginally worse handling.

you COULD do the 225/45 17, but like ^^^ said, 235/45 would be better. smoother ride and better for your speedo accuracy.

the only difference between the 235 and 245 is tread width. the comfort part will change with the sidewall size ie 30, 45, 50...

I thought since there is more tire on the road, then there is more (wider rubber) room to absorb the shock..... or am I just being 'tarded.

its all about the sidewall. a 245 on a 40 sidewall will be more comfortable than a 235 on a 40 sidewall only because the sidewall is still a bit bigger.
