air intake question

im planning on buying a ram air that is placed where my stock airbox is.
1)would it hurt performance being behind the battery where no air is?
2)take in the hot air instead of any cold air?
3)any other ram air worth looking at other than this one from stillen?
i just dont want a cold air because of issues with taking in water
i know that air intake threads are a but i figured these were not so common questions.

anything which replaces the stock box will help in a way. However air intakes really don't add THAT much hp, at least not enough to be noticable. Anyways, it would never HURT performance. The air temp for a short ram intake isn't hot. The short ram intake options include ones such as stillen, frankencar, berk ect. USE GOOGLE or search the forum. The CAI have not been known to take in water despite their location.

Dude,
I made one this weekend.. $15 adaptor and K&N cone filter from Pep boys, some SS screws and home made bracket to hold the thing up.
Sounds much nicer, though I kept the stock mid-pipe. I am looking for a used one to replace it with.

Thats the one I have, I love it and so does most of the Org. The only true CAI is the Place Racing that you have to cut your wheel well to get the air.

Hey upstatemax, how does that intake sound? Im really interested in this Berk Intake, but I dont want too much noise. Does it give a nice growl or does it sound like a 227hp Shop Vac under your hood?

It sounds just like the Frankencar:

actually, many cai's have been dynoed and have shown to decrease low end power. many people here have done a GAB which has been dynoed at as much as a 9 hp increase over stock. best part of it all is that its free and easy to make. if you dont know what it is check the do it yourself stick cuz youll probably get flamed for asking

why hasnt the industry noticed how much such a thing improves hp while they are all still making 5ph intakes for 150-200$ Is the GAB BAD in any way? Besides the fact that you dont have a shiny metal pipe in your compartment? mm.. shiny

It looks like azz...

I had one till posted my car for sale. The only reason I swithched it out is because it looked better. The Berk sounds nicer IMO and it certainly looks A LOT nicer. If no one will ever see your engine bay and all youcare about is performance, do the GAB. If you want bling and performace, I say go with Berk.

BTW: I think the K&N is more than fine for the intake. The Apexi seems to be for people who dont want to blow thier MAF, but the only way you will do that on a K&N is if you are and dont follow directions.

haha gotcha, well I think im goin to get a berk then. But first I got a couple little questions. 1.) on the left of the stock air "scoop" there is a mounted sensor and wire harness. It mounts to a drilled hole in the plastic of the scoop, using one nut and bolt. What do I do with this if I got rid of the scoop? 2.) On the underside of the scoop, there is some tubing which drops down about 5 inches and attaches to a white box (similar to a fluid tank) but it is empty and I don't see why it is there. Do I remove that tubing if I put a short ram intake in? And what is the box and does it get removed as well? Thanks in advance

I removed the tubing going to the "white box" and I have the sensor taped to the front of my battery (it is only an air temp sensor). Some people keep the stock snorkel, it might help get more cold air to the filter... I took mine off because I dont think it will help hardly at all and it looks much better off.

I just wanted to add one more thing which was not mentioned in this thread yet.

You WILL loose some of your low end torque with any intake.

The Berk keeps it very low though. I found my lowend was better with the Berk than it was with my Ported GAB.
