Well, my SE goes to the shop this afternoon. Replace the rear bumper, pull out the frame a bit, etc., etc.. Sucks. Oh well. I'll be happier (hopefully) when I see her nearly perfect again in a week or so.

In the meantime, I can't wait to get my hands on a rental car! <dripping with sarcasim> The place my insurance agency wants me to go through (Hertz Local Edition) is located inside a Ford dealer, so I'm probably gonna be stuck with the Taurus. If I'm forced into one of those, I hope they can at least give me the top-end SEL model.

I'm suffering from withdrawl just thinking about it! Dang!

Maybe I missed the thread but were you in an accident? Whatever the case...good luck on the repairs. They better give you at least a Taurus and not stick you with a Mitsu Mirage or something.

Yeah, middle of last month some dink in an SUV was trying to change lanes WAY too fast in stop-and-go traffic. He hits a truck, which hits me while I'm stopped, and I bump into a Mercedes. 100% chain accident fun!

It's my third non-fault accident in less than a year! First it was my buddy's BMW, then my Civic about four months ago, and now my Maxima. Just call me the accident magnet!

I might be laughing on the outside, but I'm crying on the inside.

It's an authorized body shop. This place handles four different dealerships in the area, so they're pretty busy. They were even nice enough to drive me to Hertz.

Damn Hertz, though, gave me a red Grand Am SE. That ain't no mid-size, in my book, but they claim it is. Even Pontiac's own website says its a compact sedan. Oh well, I can live with it. It isn't much, but it's still an 'SE'.

Whatever you do make sure all bodywork is perfect. No orange peal, nothing. Don't take your Max from the body shop until you are absolutely satisfied with it. I had to come back a second time when I got work done to my Max because I was not satisfied with the paint job. Now the side that was repainted looks better quality than the Nissan painted side.

AAARRRGGGHHHH!!! Maxima withdrawl! Somebody give me a hit!!

That little Grand AM SE w/V6 sucks. I don't like its styling, especially those 'ribbed for her pleasure' side body panels. The engine sounds nice with a good growl, but it doesn't even drive smooth and quiet. The dome light, when set in the Auto position, doesn't shut off when the doors are closed (mmmm, fantastic American car build quality).

Anyway, my girlfriend knows someone that works at Hertz, so we went to get a free upgrade. Went from a Grand AM SE to a Ford Expedition XLT. What a monster! Triton V8 engine with 232HP (that's it?!?!?). All with a 30-gallon gas tank getting 14 MPG city and 18 MPG highway. I'm taking off from San Francisco to Las Vegas tomorrow, so this should be an interesting, gas-guzzling trip. Ah well, my girlfriend used to own a 15-passenger Dodge van, so I'm used to such huge-ness.

Hope you get your Max back soon and safe. Have fun going to Vegas. It should be a very comfortable and smooth ride...and a very empty wallet from filling up gas and gambling.
