rear bumper removal

I was wondering if anyone knew how to exactly loosen the rear bumper. I had it replaced by a "reputable" body shop and it is slightly out of align and they stated that nothing can be done since there are holes in the bumper and body that match up the screws. Thanks, Ed.

You can buy a maxima factory service manual off ebay for about 20 dollars. just search for FSM maxima and go from there.

i can drop a bumper off a maxima in about 10 mins. it's really easy. 5 clips in the back, couple screws by the taillights, couple screws on the sides where it meets the quarter panel. couple clips down by the fender well.

Which part is not aligned? I replaced my rear bumper cover last October and since it's made of plastic, there isn't much you can do about the edges that meet the sheet metal of the car. You have to remove the trunk liner to access the inside nuts. The size of the fasteners is 10MM. The locations of the clips and fateners is listed in the Nissan service manual.

It's exactly where you described it, "edges that meet the sheet metal of the car", the wheel well. It needs to be pushed back about 1/8" on both sides. It's just me being "****" about it, but I notice it since it was perfect before it was replaced. A car rolled into it and pushed in the driver's side corner. Thanks for your input. Ed.

No need to pay for it on ebay I did a search on the forums for you and came up with this site. http://www.phatg20.net/ Has Maxi FSM's up to 2005. I just downloaded the FSM for my car.

You're welcome. I wouldn't worry too much about 1/8" as long as everything is bolted up properly. You can try loosening all the mounting hardware and try to slide the cover back. It might work.
