'00 SE totaled Buying another. Few questions?

Our '00 SE is totaled.
Found our next Max and it is another '00 SE 5sp but is loaded. Last one wasn't.
Questions about the one I am am going to buy...
1. What is the Home Link and where is it located in the car? Have Googled it but gave up and came to the .org

2. Did all 2000 SE 5spd's come with limited slip and the traction control system?
I have heard it was an option but some people say Nissan put both on all 2000 SE's as standard equiptment.

3. Last question since this one is a early '00 model.... it has factory 17" wheels... was that an option too? I thought Nissan didn't go from 16" to 17"s until mid year 2000....?

Thanks in advance... Brian

Wow, you must really like your Maximas Have you considered the 5.5th Gen 6-Speed? You get a few upgrades like HIDs, more HP and TQ.

The Homelink is on the drivers sun visor and you can program it to open your garage door.

I dont think they all came with the Limited slip, I think it was an option.

I have an early 00' and I have the 17's...

i would recommend trying to find a used 5.5gen...the 5gens are great but as long as you're looking to buy a used max why not try to get the nice upgrades that the 5.5gen has to offer? (HIDs, different front grille, etc.)

the black 5.5gens are beautiful... if you snag one of those and swap out the tails with the '00 - '01 black SE ones and you have one nice looking ride IMO... top it off with painting the headlight housings and you're golden. Be sure to check CarDomain to get some ideas...

I'm a big fan of titanium edition if you can get your hands on one...they are somewhat rare. Comes w/ polished aluminum 17" wheels, unique interior and a whole list of other things-- mostly cosmetic but very nice take a peek at mine if you'd like... it's a Sheer Silver SE Titainum ed.

Don't forget to check out Max's for sale in the forums too!

Yes love Maxima's. Wouldn't own anything else in this class. I am hooked!
My wife and I talked about going to a 5.5 gen but since she is in a master's program with $30,000 in student loans that will be coming up, I don't want car payments. This one is so clean and we loved the one that got totaled... why not... Here's the new one...

1. Homelink is located on the driver's sun visor. You can program your garage door opener into it

2. I own a 2000 SE 5spd, and it doesn't have traction control. I'm not sure if LS is standard or not.

3. My particular car came out fo the factory in late 99, and it came factory stock with 17"

Nice looking car and the price is right too!! My 2000 is a GLE and came with 84,000 miles and I paid just over $10,000. I have to say though, the SE with black leather interior is a nice look; I would like to get some blacked-out tail lights on mine.

My GLE came with the HomeLink system as well. Like phenom stated above, it is used in place of an aftermarket garage door opener, which keeps you from having to carry those ugly a$$ boxy garage door openers in your Max. Programming is simple and it works very well.

both of mine are factory equipped with homelink and 17s.

the blue 1 also has bose. 7/99 production
silver 1 does not have bose. 9/99 producion.

neither 1 has LSD. i think this was a very late 00 or even 01 option.

dont be quick to buy a 3.5 unless you want to add oil every few hundred miles.

It must not have Homelink then. I didn't see anything on the visor. Maybe I didn't notice it if it is there. No big deal though. On our wrecked one Max I stuck the garage door remote on the two little flat squares to the left of the steering column where some option must go...

My wrecked one was manufactured 11/99 on the door pillar sticker and had LSD and Traction control system that actually works very well.
The best part about LSD is I got virtually NO torque steer when I punched it hard. Take off from a complete stop and she would stay perfectly straight... was nice to have...

It blends in with the Visor pretty well. It is on the left hand corner, three little buttons on a plastic piece that matches the color of the visor.

Hopefully nobody hurt... My wife is all bruised and sore as hell in her chest from the seat belt locking up. Other driver (big tow truck) not injured at all but knocked the rear axle out of the truck and dropped the drive shaft on the ground (came out of the slip joint)

Mind if I ask what the insurance company gave you on you on your 2000?

Ok, I posted a couple of weeks ago about my new 00 SE 5 speed and everyone told me that LSD wasn't an option unil the 02's. I thought that was crazy since my old 3rd gen had LSD. So how do I tell if my ride has LSD?

I'm going to give the car a long test drive tomorrow and show my wife (she hasn't even viewed the pics they have of it because they just took them today) I will look more closely for Homelink buttons. It's in his ad and I and my brother-in-law have delt with him before... straight shooter for a car dealer so I doubt he made a mistake in his ad. Only thing that sucks is that he only has one keyless remote and the unlock button sucks. eBay... here I come...

I suppose the easiest way would be to drop the clutch at 4000rpms and see if both front tires squeal . Also dead stop launches will be straight with LSD. Without LSD it will tend to torque steer (jump to the side... left usually)

I was told by a dealer that LSD was standard on '00 SE's FWIW

My 2000 SE is fully loaded including heated seats, but I do get torque steer when I hit it hard. Although, I think my weaksauce tires might have something to do with that. I guess I'll have to play around some more, if there isn't some sort of code or way of telling on the firewall.(like in the old gens)

There's gotta be a code on the VIN or transaxle that indicates it... I would like to know what it is too. Too bad they already towed my wrecked one to the Allstate boneyard. I grabbed the license plates and frames off of it this morning. But it is down the road now.

The 00's did not have LSD. Only the '01 AE's came with VLSD and the 02-03's with the 6spd and AE pedals came with HLSD.
And I believe only the automatics could come with traction control.(on the 5th gens, not sure on the 5.5 gens)

Can't be true... mine had it without a doubt. Both wheels would spin on the white slick stuff, TCS would kick in on ice, ETC.... Allstate even gave me extra $$$ on mine because it had it and was listed in their book of optional equiptment. Maybe it was only offered in certain areas...? The car was bought in Utah and lived here until it got killed 8 days ago....
In fact, traction on ice/snow/slush was amazing and I never had just one wheel spin with Perrelli P6 tires...

Your last Max was a 5 speed? I didn't realize that the manuals came with TCS I thought only the automatics had TCS.

OK... I think I have solved the mystery... I 'ed this and found this:
2000-03 Nissan Maxima: Highlights

<cliped> Three versions went on sale: base GXE and sporty SE with a 5-speed manual or extra-cost 4-speed automatic transmission, and top-line GLE with automatic. <cliped> Traction control was an option only for the SE and GLE. Sporty extras on the SE included a rear spoiler and a firmer suspension, with the option of 17-inch wheels. Otherwise, 16-inch tires were standard on the SE <remainder clipped>
from: http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/u...x.cfm/id/2393/

So maybe I only had TCS not LSD. If that's the case the TCS sure worked well against torque steer

Hmm really?? Damn, I wish I had it on mine then.

BTW, that Sterling Mist max looks real clean. You should buy it.

Yep 5 speed and had TCS. Hopefully the new one has it too... Will have to find some snow tomorrow and try it out. Shouldn't be too difficult around here this winter

You just answered a question I had but didn't want to get called a newbie LOL... Sterling Mist ... sounds better than ... grey...

I am going to buy it tomorrow (hopefully) or Saturday (more likely) Need to get the check for the crunched one from Allstate first.

Any Maxima with a TCS should have a small button right under the instrument cluster on the right hand side of the wheel to turn it off. I would have to say that if it does not have that button, you do not have a TCS. Also, anytime the front tires start to slip the throttle gets pulled back and a "slip" light comes on in your instrument cluster.

I have found it is better on snow covered hills to turn off the TC because it is constantly pulling the throttle back and I can only go 5mph while with it off I can go much faster with the car naturally looking for traction.

Edit: In this pic under the instrument cluster where the lines are, is where the TCS button would be if it had it.http://www.specialtiesauto.com/share...izAutos&pid=25

Hmmmmm.... I agree about the throttle getting cut back. That would happen somewhat on mine on ice/snow. Depended on what gear I was in at the time. 1st would cut throttle way more than 2nd for instance but no button... maybe no button on a 5 speed and only on automatics? What you say makes sense but I know it had TCS... It's even on the window sticker that the original buyer gave me when we bought it.

http://www.epinions.com/auto-review-...38E2B21F-prod6

According to this it is only available on autos...

Edit:

http://www.nissannews.com/site_libra...ima/tech.shtml

From the above site:

"The new Maxima also is available (GLE and SE models equipped with automatic transmission) with an optional Nissan Traction Control System (TCS), which enhances traction performance during start, acceleration, turning, lane change and snowy or slippery road conditions. The system's controller is integrated with the ABS system. In case of wheel spin, the TCS/ABS control unit sends signals to switch the automatic transmission shift schedule and reduces torque through fuel control."

Well, having now read the write up from Nissan... I guess I was wrong. I swore it had all that. Don't know what the deal is with my window sticker. Oh well... it was an awsome car and the next one will be even better since it is loaded with everything short of heated seats. Good thread... Thanks everyone!

My (old) scanner hasn't worked since I got WinXP. I could take a picture of it with my digital camera... It works decent in a pinch as a scanner for small pages. Let me see if I can get it to look good

The car on the pics does not have TCS. I am yet to see a manual 5th gen with TCS. IIRC, when doing my homework on my 01, that was the tradeoff for getting a 5 spd.

Also and FWIW, my 01 FSM has the following footnotes under the Transaxle descriptions for ALL models, even GXEs:

*1: The automatic transaxle with viscous LSD is “RE4F04W”.
*2: The manual transaxle with viscous LSD is “RS5F50V”.

Anyone have a 00 FSM?
