The trifecta...

Put the newly-mounted track wheels/tires on today for their first heat cycle.
I think they look "ok" (not my taste for daily driving use, but good for track), but I thought you guys who are more into looks might want to see how they look on a 5th gen. Only problem - there is NO way the centercaps will fit on the rear wheels while the dust cap is there, even with it dented in...

Top: the "street setup" - for stregnth and looks
G35 18x8 w/ Proxes 4 235/40/18

Middle: the track setup - for strength and alot less weight...not for looks
5Zigen fno1r-c 17x8 w/ Hankook Z212 (shaved) 245/45/17

Bottom: the winter setup - for maximum strength and more tire sidewall
G35 17x7.5/8 w/ Blizzak LM22 225/50/17(f), 235/50/17(r)

I like the top ones and I also thing your Zigs look good without a cap. Just curious, what actually makes a wheel so good? Especially if it's not chrome, is it just about weight?

well, bronze. Why? I dunno....those wheels come in silver, black, and bronze. I already have 2 sets of silver wheels, and didn't want gloss black for the track. Oh, and the bronze ones in that size were on sale.

The 5Zigens have a reputation as a good track wheel (autocross/road racing...not drag) because they're strong and lightweight (17 lbs in this size, compared to 25 lbs stock wheels), and not too expensive (<$200 each).

lightweight is important for racing, as it reduces rotational mass and allows quicker accelleration.

as for Chrome...FTW, chrome is

might want to pose that question in the wheels/tires forum where there might be more people who know about it.

here: http://forums.maxima.org/forumdisplay.php?f=71

Personally, they look very heavy

They look fine for track use. But like you said not for everyday. I would of got the bronze to if they were cheaper since it's only for the track.

It'd probably be more polite of ya to post your own thread in the Wheels/Tires forum than hijacking this one...

I like them, I think they'll do well at the track for you. What rubber's are you running? I can't really make them out in the picture. Looks like Hankook but not sure.

Why not just pull the dust cap off? The wheels work just fine with the caps in, thats what I had to do with my wheels.

good point...maybe I will Since it's only for the track, I'm not too concerned with it 'looking good' though...

haha now I can see them, thanks! I actually like the way they look, gray/metallic would probably look a bit better but bronze is fine for a black colored car.

Hey Doc how do you like those LM-22's? I have actually been really impressed with my set. Now the LM's on my stock 17s certainly are not the Toyos/5zigens but they hold up very well IMO.

That's me with the LM22's, and they're not on the 5Zigens, they're on my other 17s. I did a write up on them in the wheels/tires section if you're interested:

Must suck to have to change your wheels in the street because you have 18 stacks of them taking up your garage.
